40th wedding anniversary

My parents will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this year and they've invited us to Eurodisney for the occasion. I'm a bit stuck on ideas on what to give to them as a suitable present though, so I thought I'd see what others would recommend?

Re: 40th wedding anniversary

Something containing a ruby? Considering that's the symbol for the anniversary?

Can't think of exactly what though - a photo album to catalogue the last 40 years? Might take a while though!

Re: 40th wedding anniversary

You should give them a large cash gift, about £10K should be right.

Only posting this as its also my Ruby wedding in June this year and my son or daughter might read this...............

The difficulty being of course that I am in the UK, and my parents live in Holland. I can't just sneak into their house and go through their old photos. And I've got no brothers or sisters I could ask to do the leg work for me either. I do like that idea though.

Re: 40th wedding anniversary

Such a shame that in Holland it is called 'Robijn', which is the name of a washing powder

Re: 40th wedding anniversary

Quinten, what about an inscribed something or other? Perhaps a beautifully shaped glass vase etched with "40th anniversary" or such message, or just a love-heart? Maybe buy more than one vase (whatever), so you can send the next etched with "50" in 10 years' time. Alternatively, perhaps a mirror that could be etched discreetly in one corner similarly?

Just a thought.

Regards
Mo

Re: 40th wedding anniversary

Thanks for some more ideas Mo.

I looked briefly into getting them the past 40 yearly annuals, but as you can only get the 3 last editions from the shops, it would mean that I'd have to find the missing 37 years in the public domain somehow... Ebay is good, but this may just be too much

Re: 40th wedding anniversary

This would be a Mo idea

In context, my dad brought me back some tiny ceramic clogs years ago, which I still have, but that's irrelevant. See, that's the wrong way round as you are in the UK and your parents are in Holland.

Therefore, could you do something that reflects that? Perhaps you could Photoshop a picture of the London Eye with fireworks around and "40 years" in the middle, to be put in a quality photo frame?

Regards
Mo
