Angry Aggressive attitude - needless

I'm annoyed.
Have spoken to quite a few 'regular' lovely people - people who consider, think before they post / speak. Ok, have only been on here some 10 months but have posted / contributed / mangled a lot
Several have said they now rarely come on here because of the bitchiness, the aggression that has crept in ... and these are seriously pleasant well-informed people that would be a great loss to the Brisky Community in terms of life-experience and technical knowledge.

Right, OK, am partially half-cut, but still capable of some reason (if not correct spelling).

I ask these 'offending people' / anyone - to moderate their vindictiveness / maliciousness / lack of consideration because they are in danger of alienating the people who are best able to advise and help them. Brisky is NOT about scoring points.

Briskoda, as I see it, is here to offer much much advice on cars, problems with, servicing queries, problems - but so much more too. It is a community where (mostly) like-minded people gather at times to also like to discuss other matters, relieve the frustrations of every day life, to banter, have fun, arrange social gatherings and trips and, evetually, life-long friendships and relationships.

I find Brisky brill - OK, I'm a sad sac 55 yr old unemployed but have met (virtually and otherwise) so so many nice people, it has in many ways reaffirmed my reason for living (aside from my family - andf in no way do I decry this aspect - it is ALLl important) - and certainly beats the dross that predominates TV.

So, please please please, leave your irritations / annoyances at home - we all have them - be considerate, be polite, think before writing, try to use the Smilies (so much can be 'defused' by this), and - if work is getting you down - vent it out publically on here not on an individual - and you will almost certainly find a sympathetic soul -

Brisky is truly great, and deserves better than to be tainted by narrow-minded individuals.

If you were to go on other Forums you would soon discover how good this one is.

Sermon over - please think
And, I hope the really nice peeps that have virtually deserted Brisky return - your Forum Needs You
To ColinD (the site owner) and all the Moderators who do so much unseen (and unthanked ) work, I thank you

Admit it - what does it cost to be nice - a few words, a smile. C'mon - is this past you ? Life is about fun mostly, relationships, experience - Brisky can certiainly help here......................

Re: Aggressive attitude - needless

Cant honestly say I've noticed a problem?

The thing with forums is even with smilies, it's hard to judge the tone of a post, so the simple method is to always assume the best and never take offence, that way you dont feel the need to make whinging, self congratulory posts like the above!

So, even with the smilies, have you judged a tone in my post?

Just to clarify, it is meant to be tongue in cheek and light hearted, so dont take offence

Anyone who does find a comment or post offensive should report the post using the exclamation mark button to the left of the page and a mod will take a look at it. We aren't around all of the time but we will get to it when possible.

Me neither. Perhaps I'm reading the wrong forums?

I've noticed a few new members getting the hump when they haven't received the reply they wanted, but I don't consider the regulars being particularly off, just directing towards the search facility, etc.

And the odd serious topic becomes a little heated every now and then (although not seen many of them lately), but I've not noticed anything I'd call aggression, and certainly not aimed at any of the regulars...?

Re: Aggressive attitude - needless

I think Brisky's pretty easy-going too, TBH. Fair enough, my posts in response to one particular member's posts might be considered over-critical (I think aggressive / bitchy is taking it too far), but then that was troll-baiting, which while naughty (and maybe even against the forum rules - must check!) was hardly unprovoked...

Re: Aggressive attitude - needless

Hi Good old Soviet here,

Must comment that I have never seen any nasty, or bad behaviour towards others on the forum. Can you be more specific, or give instances, as I do not recall anything of offence. There are of course normal channels that have been put there by the site owners to air your grievances, if it is so bad.

No offence, but arn't you blowing things up out of proportion some what?

Regards

Soviet

Re: Aggressive attitude - needless

Me neither... other than branding you The Mancunian Idiot in the Blackpool thread which we briefly hijacked I can honestly say I've never recieved a malicious message... either on Briskoda or MSN where I chat to peeps from the site on occasion.

I've never had a PM ignored by the mods, and 95% of my threads get answered - no complaints from this one

Well to be fair Mr Gumpy was mean when advising me about washing cars... but it was for my own good

I didn't say I was the recipient - I have been but am suitably more thick-skinned now so just tend to ignore those responsible.

So, no, can't say who has offended / attacked bludgeoned these nice peeps (because I just don't know) - but for several of them to make the same comment says someting.............

Re: Aggressive attitude - needless

I've not noticed anything out of the ordinary recently that I'd deem to be aggressive, but maybe we all have different interpretations and standards. This sort of thing crops up every few months and I think would happen in any community be it online or otherwise, especially where friendship groups are evident within the community. If people feel they have been victimised or a post(er) is aggressive towards them then they must report the post otherwise their silence will go unheard and it can never be resolved. If they don't want to use report they can always PM one of the mods directly.

I may come across as being a tad terse now and again, but I have an odd sense of humour, and rarely post anything with malice aforethought.
Then again, if people disagree with what I say, there is always the report post button, or even the ignore one.
Life's too short to worry about upsetting an idiot now and again anyway.

As previously mentioned, if something is posted that you consider to be rude, offensive, malicious or anything else that causes problems then feel free to report the post. Dont hesitate to name and shame either.

Cant say I have noticed anything major, the forum seems to go through sticky patches once in a while but on the whole still apears to be good natured and informative and IIRC its always been like this Having been a member since day one of briskoda, and before its inception we were part of a larger forum I think we are still a good source of information and technical advice.

Re: Aggressive attitude - needless

I have noticed rudeness on here (I can't guarantee I've never posted owt rude "yaaaaaawn!" springs to mind)

there are a couple of members who aren't really candidates for Briskodian of the Month and as soon as they post anything the regulars (mods included) come down on them like a ton of bricks. But hey, that's probably the reaction they're looking for anyway.

I can't see what drew cause for such comments though if memory serves me right?

Quite frankly I'm tired of it and would prefer to call it water under the bridge.
