| Re: Is this Alzheimers? Finding it very sad It's not mostly symptoms I'm familiar with, but it could be. Is she claiming to not recognise people whe's known for years, or mistaking them for people from her childhood? |

| Briskodian | Re: Is this Alzheimers? Finding it very sad My nan who passed away just recently suffered with alzheimers, and although it does in some cases manifest itself with hints of anger and violence, i wouldn't of thought from your description that was what was being displayed by your mother... I'm not a doctor by any means though! I think the violent tendencies from alzheimers sufferers tend to come from them being very confused, and not realising people are trying to help them. Example; my nan would regularly punch the crap out of her carers when trying to get her in/out of her chair or bed and likewise when they bathed her. Is she displaying any other signs of the disease? example - my nan was a fully qualified chef, even went as far as learning other languages to understand more about other countries cuisine...... Now, some of the 1st signs of her alzheimers was when we would go for dinner and she'd serve up a curry with mashed potatoes and gravy!!!????!!!??? and other bizarre menus....... It maybe be worth talking it through with your doctor and explain your concerns, they will be able to put you in touch with your local alzheimers group who would be able to help you - they usually have regular meetings for family and carers to attend by way of support. I hope it turns out not to be alzheimers, it's a horrible disease and is unbelievably hard on the families of the sufferers. Best wishes. |
