Annoyed - Where am I going wrong??

Well today I just had the worst day at work ever. I am so annoyed. Today I got called away by the manager into a room with another manager. They said we sorry to do this to you but we are going have to let you go. You are incompitant but you are a hard worker you ask too many questions. The only reason I ask questions is to check I am doing the work right. I don't want get it all wrong and get into trouble too. They have told me to go and see the doctor about it cos the same sort a thing happened in one of my previous temp contracts. I can't believe it has happened again. So P'd off like. To be told I was incompitant was another blow for me and being told I should maybe work in a shop.
After the meeting I was ready to Hit something or someone but I managed not to lose it. It just feels like nothing is going right in my life at the moment. it all seems to be going badly.
Well they have given me 2 weeks for the agency to find me another job. But I maybe able to get another job in the same place in another department. I have a meeting with the agency on Monday afternoon.

Did they give you any written warning etc?

When you say temp contract was this job a temp one, were you in a probation period etc?

No warning nothing. I worked my butt off in the place, bent over backwards to do stuff, went out my way to help people and this is how you get thanked. I put everything into it. Maybe was trying to hard to prove myself even though it was a temp contract.
Still hurt bad to be told I was incompitant.

I'd probably ask the agency for justification of the comment as you find it unfounded.

Asking questions isn't bad and they do have to train you, but not getting stuff and always asking questions isn't great.

It's a temp job, I'd just go get a new one I think.

Sorry to hear that.

Giving everything to an emoployer these days isnt recommended. Yes there are some really good employers out there, but 99% of them will happily screw you over any chance they get.

Def get the agency on the case, but dont go to OTT for any firm. Experience has taught me that!

I beleive that it has something to do with a interview Hannah had a week or so ago, saying she should have done better and expected her to walk the interview, the way this woman spoke to Hannah is not on, saying she was incompatent, said she would be suited to working in a supermarket, and that's not encouraging to her, said she lacked confidence and that it could be medically related, Manager or no Manager you should not speak to someone like that!

I agree, pretty disgusting way to speak to someone, completely out of order. Smacks of bullying even. Probably be better off working somewhere else (with a more supportive/team spirited environment to get your confidence levels back up). I went through a stage where I went from one disaster to another workwise - just bad timing/bad colleagues/skills mismatch - can take a while to find your niche.

I knew something was wrong when she picked me up the night and gave me a hug and then it came out, I was shocked to say the least but think the planning of our impending marriage took the job situ off her mind. Just feels like the now everything is not working out for us.

Here Here, on that one. I did that for the last company i worked for , and got overtaken for promotion by the laziest t**t in the company and then a kid who had just come out of his apprentiship. 20+ years experience counted for nothing, I got my own back though, by changing the computer passwords before i left , and then nicking a few of the customers
Now i live for number one, but lead my employer into a false sense of security , by letting him think i do it for them

Exactly. Do give a little, but just not too much unless there's something in it.

Sounds sad to do, but now a days employers really dont give a hoot about the employee or how the money comes in. Come redundancy time, the a** lickers and lazy slackers hide their laziness so well thanks to the good workers so the good ones get picked first.

Dont feel bad about it. it will have nothing to do with your skills or abilities
its all down to the new rules regarding agency workers
after 12 weeks all agency employees have the same rights as full time employees

from your location in fife you have edinburgh stirling perth and dundee almost on your door step

try some old fasioned job hunting ...pick up the yello pages and start phoning people and asking if they need any new starts ..always leave them contact details ..always sound happy even after a refusal ....
then put the phone down and call them whatever you want

and good luck finding an employer that deserves you

You can sometimes do quite alot by wireless networks these days as the people without a clue how to secure them just plug them in, they work and they're happy. sorry to hear, but i always thought a member of personel had to be present with the manager before they could sack someone???

Do you know the area around where you live well? and if you know what sort of work you want? drive around the business parks and industrial sites and write down the names of any companies you like the look of etc. also look to see if the business parks have vacancy boards or websites and look on there too.

Also any company that is not advertising, send them a copy of your cv, you be suprised how many will call you in for an interview because you have shown inicitive (i cant spell today sorry) and some might even have an internal vacancy which is yet to be posted externally.

all in all good luck and get out there looking!!

I'm dreading going in tomorrow morning but if I don't I am letting them beat me. I don't want let them do that. I need to be bigger than them.
I took a long walk this morning and took time to think about things and I am begining to wonder if they are trying to get me out under health grounds. I was very honest with the manager about my health a couple a months back. I thought it would be best to be honest. But now I see it has got me nowhere.
Hopefully my meeting with the agency will go well tomorrow and they will help me find something else in the next 2 weeks before I end up jobless again.

I'd agree that it sounds very much like they are finding excuses to fire you. But without a union there isn't much you can do that isn't more trouble than it's worth. Do you have a contract that describes the disciplinary procedure? Since you're a temp it may be different, but you would usually get a verbal warning and a written warning before being fired, and you often have a right to have a colleague present during a verbal warning.

If you feel there may be some truth in the allegation that you ask too many questions, next time try running the conversation through in your head before having it. You may find that gives you confidence in your own answer. Then if you still need to ask, be sure to include your proposed solution in the question. Since they are now sensitised, never ask the same question twice; if you find you need to, then write the answers down so you can refer back.

But I do think you are right, and digitaldwarf has probably hit the nail on the head. At the end of the day, unless you have no other options, a company that would do this is not worth working for. Why fight this one when they're likely to do something similar later?

However I have spent many many years at management level and rarely came across staff who could accept critisism, regardless of how tactful and polite it was put to them, furthermore effort applied does not always mean acceptable results were or are achieved. Some people clearly aren't up to the job in hand and you often have no choice other than to re-deploy them to another area or terminate their contract.

As people, we always believe we are good at what we do, however in business it's our employers that need to believe that we're good at our job.

Denial is almost always the first reaction to critisism, but usually followed by self reflection and then acceptance. Be totally honest with yourself and understand if your work results were in line with what was/is expected of you. If they weren't,then accept you may be better suited to other work, if they were, the escalate your concerns via the agency.

I'm not trying to have a go at you, nor make the situation worse, just trying to put a different slant on the situation.

I wish you well and hope things turn out for the best.

At the end of the day, it's only a job. Your health, and the health & happiness of your family is the most important thing in life. Don't take it for granted, and make sure you enjoy life. If they don't want you in that job, tell them to get f**ked (tactfully) and get yourself a different job!!
