| Anyone know anything about washing machines? If you do, I'd like your help!! I have a very weird unknown make of integrated washing machine in my kitchen and it's playing up... basically it's sticking and not moving thru the cycle as it should... I have to move it on manually. Problem is, I can't get anyone to come and look at it as they all say they've never heard of the make - it's a Prima. Having exhausted yellow pages and the local paper... anyone got any ideas? I don't want to have to just rip it out and replace it cos it's only 2 yrs old... but at the mo I can't really see any other option!! Oh - I've tried looking for Prima washing machines on the internet, and I found a Prima website... but they don't mention washing machines on there at all!! Just things like breadmakers.... ![]()

| You wont find any, its just a model bought in and branded up as Prima, probably to do with your kitchen. It could be any number of cheap makes, the problem being spares availability which is why no-one wants to touch it...they dont want the hassle of an upset customer wanting to know when they are going to return to fix the machine. Without seeing it, I cant go any further aprt from saying that if it lasted 2 years it did well. When you say it sticks, is it on all prog selections including spin only?

| Aye - Kentish is your man. It's probably a rebadged something else if you can't find any direct reference to it. As far as the problem - I'll let Andy give the professional advice, but if I had to guess, I'd say either the controller is fubar, or the water level pressure switch. Edit - D'oh! it's just it never gets there without 'help'... I keep having to turn the dial on all the way through the cycle or it just sits there and never moves on.... and... the drum doesn't really turn properly during the cycle... but it seems ok when it comes to spin?

| it's just a straight forward washing machine. And it sticks all through the cycle, right up until it gets to the spin. Something else I've noticed, is that although you can hear the water running in, it never seems as if there's much water in the drum? the clothes do get wet, but you never see any water 'standing' in the bottom... dunno if that's 'normal' or not tho ![]()

| Do you hear it filling for unusual amounts of time, ie fills then stops, drum tumbles then more filling, then tumbels, then more filling etc etc?

| I tried a search on google for prima +"washing machines" and it gave me an ebay link, which said, under the link: "Buy Major Appliances, Home Garden, Ovens Cookers Hobs, Washing Machines Dryers, Fridges Freezers, ... Made and Guaranteed by Whirlpool under the brand Prima ..." hmm maybe I'll try and investigate that way... looks a bit more hopeful for parts tho?

| You need to find the waste hose from the washine machine. It sounds like its syphoning the water out. Chances are it will be the grey ribbed hose out of the bottom left or right. It should come up a good 30 ins then hook into a standpipe of 40mm dia, the end of the hose not being constantly submerged, or connected to a sink spigot. It sounds like your drain hose never gets high enough so the water runs out through gravity. My reasoning being that you have only said it sticks, and keeps filling. No mention of flooding out onto the floor.

| Just look under the sink first, can you see a grey ribbed hose from the direction of the w/m connected to a spigot under the sink? If not, put the machine on without any clothes in it. Let if fill as normal then turn it off. Does the water level hold where it is? The if the water holds, turn the prog to spin and drain the water out. Can you hear the water being drained away

| If the previous tests show nothing, and the water does'nt drop I would suggest you need an engineer. Next questions are...what type of flooring do you have? If its lino, ceramic tiles or anything not-fabric have a tin of WD40 handy and squirt a small area in front of where the feet are each side. It will help the machine slide out and not dig or damage the flooring. It is also very good at removing the black marks Whirlpool feet leave behind.

| ok, turned it on, let it fill, switched it off... and it just drained away! I could actually hear it trickling it's way down the pipe.... to complicate matters, the people who fitted the kitchen seem to have put the pipework behind the back of the sink cupboard... so I can't see the washing machine connections back there at all. but there IS a grey ridgy pipe that comes from under there and goes round the back of the machine - I just can't see where it comes from or where it goes ![]()

| There you go...its syphoning all the water out. Easy to fix, just need to get access to the rear.

| If you can find enough of the grey pipe to lift it up and wedge it in a higher position, you may even be able to stop the siphoning as a temporary fix - worth a try, anyway. |

| think I'll have to wait until I can get at it properly at the weekend... the hose goes round the back of my kitchen units so I can't get to it easily (unless I grow arms that are twice the length they are and bend in the opposite direction )
