Anyone in/near Tamworth, Staffs?

I'll be moving up to Tamworth at the end of January to start my new job in Atherstone.

Just wondered who is from that part of the world? The members map doesnt show anyone for miles around

I'll be looking for recomendations on good non-Skoda garages and/or dealers. There is a VW dealer in Tamworth but no Skoda (the nearest is some distance in the opposite direction to work).

I'll be looking at having an uprated pair or ARB's fitted, new shocks all round, CV joint replaced and all the ARB links and bushes replaced.

Re: Anyone in/near Tamworth, Staffs?

Not too far away in Cannock. My mother used the VW garage inTamworth.Never again though.Uses an independant VW/Audi specialist. Will post details for you.

Nothing wrong with Skoda in Cannock(Autosales).I find them quite good.Probably bit far though.

Good luck on the job front.Tamworth snowdome for WRX/Octy shootout should help standing starts

Awesome or JBS for fitting of ARB's, about an hour away for both of them.

Quite a few dealers around or within the M42 ring.

Re: Anyone in/near Tamworth, Staffs?

I used to work in Atherstone about 12 years ago. Haven't been back since so the place has probably changed a bit. The B5000 (?) from Tamworth can be quite an entertaining drive. The A5 has too many speed cameras!

As mentioned above Autosales at Cannock are a good dealer IMHO - a lot of the staff transferred when Lea Hall Motors in Rugeley closed. Last time I used them you could get a courstey car (nearly new Fabia) for £5/day. There is an independent Audi/VW garage in Lichfield (MacKenzies on the Crossfield Industrial site) but I don't know anything about them.

Good luck with the new job.

Re: Anyone in/near Tamworth, Staffs?

I'm not too far from Atherstone - near to Coleshill - I will need to use a dealer soon for service so I am looking for one nearby also - it may well be autosales cannock but have heard that there is a 'new' dealer in Coventry ?. Skoda in south Birmingham is very small site and never any parking and tiny workshop.

Good luck with the move and job.

Re: Anyone in/near Tamworth, Staffs?

Hi
The motorway makes it pretty easy to get up to us.
I did some training at Tamworth some time ago and I travelled it daily.
Must have been mad!
But we can do all work on VAG cars.
We can even do servicing on cars that are still within the warranty.

Hi
As Eddy said yes we are open all day on Saturdays.
But sometimes with it can get quite busy so would be wanting to book in quite early.

Hi Paul
I am at home at the moment , but about 110.00 all in.
That is OEM parts and we stamp your book.
Full diagnostic check and we can advise on warranty issues if there are any.
I was a service manager for Skoda dealer for a few years and also did the warranty claims admin so I know about them all.

Re: Anyone in/near Tamworth, Staffs?

I had a mate at college (in Nottingham back in 80's), who hailed from Atherstone. He loved the place and said the locals referred to it as "Athers, where the pubs never shut". This apparently due to it being a pit town and needing to cater for miners, regardless of shift finishing times etc. It was apparently just a case of knowing which doors to knock upon.

Sounds like a decent town, then...

I live in tamworth! Its nice to hear someone else has moved to this beautiful place! Ha. Its a nice town, Whilst my car was in warranty I used Cannock autosales. Ok, did the job. Apart from when they missed my split intercooler pipe! Went home and found it myself! Oh well. Anyway hope the job is going well. Damien

Sarah -Where exactly "Central UK" are JBS?? - if not too far i might also be interested, as i'm not too far from PaulC, and we're nearer to Atherstone than Tamworth.
Nearest Skoda dealer to here is Prestige in Coventry.I have used Brooklyn in Rugby as i work there- drop car off in morning and pick up in afternoon.

I'm not too far away, near Brownhills. Autosales at Cannock seem OK, but I'll know more after Friday.
