| Been offered 2 jobs which one do i take? Been offered 2 jobs. First job is working for a local building society through an agency for 4-6 weeks in there call centre. They are based not far from home but not sure on the money. Second job is working for the goverment though an agency. This job is for few months to end of June at lease. Only think is the money is not great and its about an hours commute in the morning. Which one should i take? Any ideas? |

| Re: Been offered 2 jobs which one do i take? Is there any possibility for full time in either? Local building society would be more appealing for me as its local so if the money isnt that good it wont matter as much |

| Re: Been offered 2 jobs which one do i take? Not sure at this stage but def not with the building society that is just to cover a busy point i think. But with the goverment there could be more hope there for full time but not sure. |

| Re: Been offered 2 jobs which one do i take? The first one sounds a better bet as it's local and could be for more money, but it is a shorter contract so I guess my concern would be what happens after 4-6 weeks? Is there a possibility the contract will be renewed/extended? Or could it be turned into a permanent position? Or will you be looking for work again (which may take some time) and how much work of this type is available? I'm also assuming that the work is the same in both cases so you don't have a preference between them from that point of view? ![]() Chris

| Re: Been offered 2 jobs which one do i take? I presume neither of them are what you want to do. Find out the money of both of them, and what the local government job involves. Work out which one is the best overall, pay, interest, commuting time, length of contract. And then take the one which you can browse the internet all day ![]() |

| Re: Been offered 2 jobs which one do i take? If the money in the 2nd job is worth the cost of commuting, then go for that one. More chance of progression through gov't channels I reckon too.

| Re: Been offered 2 jobs which one do i take? I would say the first one, just because its close, and if they dont offer a fulltime job or indicate wanting you to stay on after a month.. you can be lining yourself up another job in the spare time you would have had to use travelling to the other job |

| Briskodian | Re: Been offered 2 jobs which one do i take? It's hard when you have three options, i.e. Take No. 1, Take No. 2 or take neither and look for one that you'll be really happy with (after all, you've got two offers, so you're a saleable person it seems). Perhaps narrow it down. Put one on the table against nothing. Would you take it, or nothing for now? Then put the other on the table and do the same. It might make it easier to decide, cos it helps focus on short and long term objectives also. Best wishes with whatever you decide. Mo |

Another way to look at it, for your cv this is, is that your actually seek out short term contracts because the remuneration and challenge is greater. You gain experience and knowledge of more systems and approaches to problems. So next time, you can cleanly state that you'd like to put this into action at a longer term placement, you wish to settle on a course etc... The flip can also occur when your somewhere for so long you become in grained in it's workings and approaches. It blinds you to the bleeding obvious next to you, that for me is a bigger problem than a short term contracts person, who typically has seen more, done more, had the hassle of no work and I suspect is keener to get the job done over the lifer 9-5. That's my 0.02p worth having seen a few lifers 9-5 and contractors over the years.

Your third alternative, the bank job with chance of permanent employment (and better pay) seems to me to be the best one if there are no serious drawbacks when compared with the others: So let's hope for a positive outcome when phone rings Monday.

| Re: Been offered 2 jobs which one do i take? Thanks everyone for your help and advice. I am taking the govenment job for couple reasons. The local building society job is to short and the Royal Bank one i still haven't heard back from. So the government job it is. The only thing that worries me is the hour commute in the morning to get to work. Dreading the very early mornings. But be worth it to get some money again. |

Or you could use an alarm clock, two mobile phones and a radio, all set to go off at five-minute intervals, like I do. Sometimes I still have trouble though!
