Fuel is a resource which is becoming more scarce.

When things become scarce the price goes up.

Re: The C*ntrag's Response to Petrol Price Petition

They take the basic price and add duty to it and then they stick 17.5% VAT on the lot. VAT - Value Added Tax, where is the value in paying tax on the tax? If they did not charge VAT on the duty, the price would drop by around 10p per litre. As the VAT is a %age they are raking in even more every time the fuel companies put the price up.

Also they don't raise enough in taxes to the point that if there was a really bad financial downturn or if the current one lasts a longish time, the USA would be in deep doo doo.

Although increasing the fuel duty has nothing to do with how scarce the fuel is. It's a deterrent to try and discourage people from buying fuel to enable us to meet our carbon footprint something or other ... allegedly ... to save the planet and also to "fund public services" whatever they may be.

Re: The C*ntrag's Response to Petrol Price Petition

The one thing I have noticed of late, is the increases in fuel theft being reported locally, both in drive offs from fuel stations, and the theft of fuel from cars by drilling holes in the tank to get the fuel because it cannot be syphoned like the old days.

In the end though everything goes up, bread, other food, drink as it all relies on fuel powered trucks to get to the stores, and likewise the raw materials to the production lines.

Re: The C*ntrag's Response to Petrol Price Petition

lets face it ,if the Government buckled and dropped a percentage off the fuel price due to public pressure they would only hike another tax somewhere else to balance the books.
People over here can't believe how much the UK pays for petrol and diesel, i just laugh and tell them eventually it will rise here too (and it is, slowly) thats why i drive a 2ltre focus while they drive 5.7l lumps of concrete. Last laugh to me ....eventually...

by the way 55p (equiv) per litre here at the mo..

Re: The C*ntrag's Response to Petrol Price Petition

"these rates were decided in line with the Government's commitment to both reduce polluting emissions, and to fund public services"

That line really P1sses me of badly because it's something the goverment is "doing for me" that I don't actually want, I don't care about emissions and I think our public services are sh1te

I hate this country at times, I really do.

I'd like to pay no tax at all and then pay for my own medical bills, I want to pay for my own waste disposal and everything else that this goverment "Provides as a service to me"

Reason I'd like to pay for all of these things is because then I will be paying for me, just me

I wont be paying for over 2 million people who are on disability living allowance that don't actually have a disability (God bless those who actually need it), i wont be paying for f'ing cha.vy bastwards that have no intention of getting a job in their entire lives, and let's not get started on the foreigners we're all putting up

I really think this country should stop wasting MY money on things I dont want and let me go my own way!

There is a country like this, but everyone is obese

Re: The C*ntrag's Response to Petrol Price Petition

The government on this Godforsaken over-taxed Island we live on takes us for fools. We get over taxed on fuel, cigarettes, alcohol - everything. After many trips abroad into Europe I have noticed how much better the road networks are, the cost of fuel is considerably less, the cost of food and drink and cigarettes is also considerably less.If any other European country had to pay what we do for fuel, combined with our road tax etc, and drive on our over-congested motorways etc, they'd all revolt and a national strike would occur! We should do the same here.We have the poorest road networks, health service and crime rates in the whole of europe, yet it costs us more to live here.If I had the money, I'd be out of this country like a shot, buy a nice place in the Pyrenees mountains near to Andorra and go there weekly and buy my fags, booze and fuel all tax free!Probably wouldn't get mugged by a bunch of hoodies either!

Re: The C*ntrag's Response to Petrol Price Petition

the government should start by looking at where its wasting billions of pounds, then they can easily afford to cut the tax on fuel. considering in the last budget they didnt count the high price fuel has got to the government is actually making millions more each day cos of the high price fuel has reached.

As for the carbon footprint ******** its just an excuse to make more money via tax.
