On-call/flexibility "allowance"

My company has just had a shake-up (i work in IT) and before now, i was getting paid for overtime.... also being on call 9-12 every other saturday..

now theve changed it so i get a on-call allowance monthly and dont get overtime.. but theoretically ill be on-call all weekend. i know the chance of me getting a phone call is very very unlikely.. but what sort of money/t&cs should i be weary of?

If its anything like one of our 24 hour response maintenance contracts, the person on call gets paid something like £50 a day to be on call at the weekend, plus a favourable piece rate for callouts he attends during that weekend. Think it will be something like this you'll get?

In much the same situation, I cover 50% of out of hours on-call for our place. It's worked out on a flat rate (ie. a certain amount for a "shift", then time and a half for Saturday and double time for Sunday/bank holidays), with no additional money if I actually do get called out.
I don't know if there's any steadfast things you should be weary of...so long as your happy with the t&cs and pay, there shouldn't be a problem!

well i think its not so clean cut

theyve basically offered everyone in the dept 2k extra a year.. which personally, im not that fussed with as it works out as less work for me.. but others are not so keen, as it means more "work" for them for *potentially* less money.. (the bit that makes it more awkward for me is that ive had a supplimentary payrise anyway)

What I receive is actually calculated over the year, then averaged over 12 months for the pay packet...so it does sound rather similar.
Most employers I know of have a term in your contract which makes it at least a disciplinary to discuss your salary with colleagues, so no one should be in a situation to find out (and hence question) what you earn...

We get a standby rate (£50/day), plus overtime at the standard rate for any time actually worked.
If you're on call over a holiday, you can claim an extra day's pay, plus a day in lieu. If it's Xmas or New Year you get double time.

Quite generous, but it doesn't get rid of the fact that you can't really have a social life while on call......
