Camping in France

Planning on taking the family to France, using the boat or the tunnel to get there with our car.
We want to use camps site and just tour round perhaps ending up on the edge of Paris so we could go to Euro Disney.
We have looked on the web and found several campsites that are really expensive 50 euros a night?
So if anybody has done anything like this or has experience of camping in France perhaps you could give me some useful pointers.
A nice part of France to tour round? Do we need to book in advance? Even campsites that people have used.
Any thing you think might be useful.

Re: Camping in France

Last month we camped at Bois de Boulogne in a tent.
What can i say, it was garbage.
They gave us a plot on compressed gravel that you would park a van on. Needless to say we couldnt even get tent pegs in.
So we went and asked for another plot.
They said we could go on the grass further down the site (why not put us there in the first place).
When we got to the grass it turned out to be sandy mud with a few weeds.
Showers and toilets were dirty and smelt like mould.
Supposed to be 4star. (probably 20 years ago).
Wouldnt recommend

Re: Camping in France

Have camped in France a few times though not recently. Mostly it was on farms that also did camping.

Try searching on google on "camping a la ferme". Should throw up some suitable options.

Camping is pretty mainstream on the continent so you should have a decent holiday.

Re: Camping in France

Get hold of a copy of one of the guides like this:-

Amazon.co.uk: Camping France 2008 (Michelin Camping Guides) (Michelin Camping Guides) (Michelin Camping Guides): Michelin: Books

Just come back myself - Western France, 11 Euros a night, 40 emplacement, remote site with mixture of cabins, caravans and tents, hedged-off grass -pitch, leccy, recently refurbished showers/toilet, beach 200 metres, hypermarket @ 5 -6 Kms, weather not bad.

If you have to go to Euro Disney, what about trying the cheap "Lenny Henry" type hotels for a couple of nights and then pull pack to the country for the camping.

Re: Camping in France

This place is lovely, but it's a long way down, in the very South West of France.
I have to declare an interest here, as it's owned by my wife's cousin and her husband, but it always gets good write ups. Heading down that way myself at the end of Auugust, but we'll be in one of the cottages
