| Child tax credit is the biggest f@#k up ever!!!! I called a couple of weeks ago to update our renewal, just to make sure they had the right information.I told them earnings for the previous tax year and the only change was to the amount we pay for child care,as it had gone up slightly which didn't make a difference as it was less than £10 per week. Last week i was checking our joint account and found a payment for £29 and one for £1086 from CTC ![]() I called up that day and they told me that the payment was because we had been under payed.I asked were they sure and explained that i was told i had to write to another office (that can't be contacted any other way) as they didn't know the child care is taken out of my wifes wages (salary sacrifice),even tho i explained everything when we 1st applied in April '07. I then get put on hold and after a few mins, they come back and say they don't know if the payments are right or not. They then say they will put in the details in again and it will take 48hrs for the computer to work out what,if any, payments are due or over payments have been made. I phoned on monday and they basically don't know and told me they will call me back when someone has looked into it. I have justed checked our bank account and another payment of £150 has been made. ![]() ![]() Just about to book holiday on CTC...cheers Chase me for the money. ![]() |

Overpaid by £2k, and they're taking it back rapidly. Given the price increases they've faced, they had to borrow cash just to pay bills! Put it in an interest account until they sort the mess out. | |

| they have done the same to SWMBO and me. For the last 2 years they keep deciding that I only earn £3.5k which is odd because me earings don't have a 3 or a 5 in it and therefore give us a massive lump sump then refuse to take it back as they say they can't do that. We've never had a year go by that our CTC has been correct, and we setup a High Interest Savings account and put the money in there just incase they do ask for it back as they have done with friends of ours who stupidly spent the money and now have to find a way to pay it back. |

| i applied for this after speaking to them about it when it first came out for my daughter as she lived with me half the time and her mums the other. told them what i earned etc and they started to pay me £200 a month. 2 years later the decided i wasnt entitled to it and demanded it all was paid back. luckily half of it was saved in the bank. but for the past 6 years they keep asking me to re apply, no thank you not for you to take it back again in a couple more years. |

| I've had nothing but hassle from Child tax credit. I received around £420 up until July 07, i then moved house, informed them of the move, and received no forms etc.. Phoned them up, gave info from P60 etc.. 2 months later, still no payment. I then received a letter stating i owed them the £420 back as i wasn't eligible for Child tax credit, so i disputed it. After receiving numerous letters stating that they want their money back, i kept calling, and they informed me it was all sorted, and i didn't owe them money. Result. So.. Around September last year, they sent more forms to fill in so i could start claiming again, sent them off, 2 months later, still nothing, called them, they claimed not to have received them, so again, filled in more forms. Now, we're this whole scenario goes on, right up until last week, so now a whole year, of not receiving tax credits, they sent a letter asking for that initial £420 back...and until that is sorted, i wont get any tax credit. Why has it taken them a whole year to tell me this..the only reason this situation occured is because they sent forms to the old house, even after we informed them of the move, so it went past the July 31st deadline. I made my last call to them on Monday, and they're sending out an appeal form for me to fill in, only once this has been done, they will look into starting paying again. So really, thats a whole year of not getting anything at all, purely because of their incompitence (sp) . The appeal can take up to 8 weeks to process.. If nothing comes out of it...i'm lost ! ![]() |

| Just received my first award (based on last year's P60s). Phoned up to say that my wife is on maternity leave and will earn much less this year. To process it, I had to guess how many weeks she'll be on Mat. Leave in this tax year, make an estimate of how much she'll earn from anything she does back at work and they do their own frig by subtracting an amount based upon how long she is off. And then they'll send the new figure in the post. Now I'm not surprised its so ****** up. |

| Their guidelines on what to do if you're in a salary sacrifice scheme aren't particularly clear. I rang them up to clarify and the bloke was adamant that I should include the childcare costs as well as my reduced (post-sacrifice) salary on the form. I ignored this as I just knew I'd end up in the situation you're in now. So I just put down the reduced salary and £0 for childcare costs - therefore I just get the "family" element, and not the "childcare" element. Many of their example calculations state that you're better off getting the tax credits through them than via salary sacrifice. To be honests, I can't even be bothered to work it out - I just know that I trust our Personnel dept (and that's saying something!) a lot more than I trust the govt to get the sums right!
