Chinese Milk Fiasco

Is there anyone else who is absolutely appauled by this?

As a parent myself I find it absolutely unbelievable that a company could be so immoral as to water down BABY MILK and bulk it up with a toxic substance.

6 children dead and thousands ill.

It just said on the news that a few years ago the chinese government executed one of its minister's for taking bribes to keep silent, after a toy company used lead paint on some childrens toys as it worked out cheaper than using other paint.

I guess it wouldn't be the first such occasion of this "type of thing" considering grain and chemical/medicine scandals in the past, though perhaps a decade or more ago (details on request).

The thing that surprises me most perhaps is that it's happening "today".

Following on from the sub-standard buildings collapsing on the recent earthquake I'm not surprised.

The Chinese economy has its own problems, rising costs etc, and if it meant the difference between selling or wasting the milk then contaminating was their choice. If the milk had gone into the 'adult' food chain, would it have been noticed?

What I'm not sure of at the moment is whether the melamine was added to milk that was destined to be baby milk or added when it was just milk and later it went into the baby food chain?

There are other reports of ice-cream and yogurts being taken off the shelves.
