Christmas Holiday

For the first time in many years I have managed to blag xmas week off from work. To this end I am thinking off packing the family up and wandering to Austria or similar on an organised coach trip type thing.

As anyone done this in the past, pros, cons any thoughts?

Re: Christmas Holiday

Who will cook your Xmas dinner and give you presents if you have sent the family off to Austria?

You had better have a setting put aside in case he lands.

Hi Postmanpat,

Congratulations, and good on you here. All that you posties have been through here, I think that you are really deserving this.
Best of luck to you, and I hope that you have a splendid long holiday, with the family.

Re: Christmas Holiday

Go for it mate. Not done the coach trip thing but went away to the canaries over xmas and new year before with the parents when i was about 15 and it was the best christmas ive ever had.

xmas day was 100F and then went out later on for a nice T-Bone steak but there were plenty of other tucking into the traditional dinners.

Going to Florida does sound good though. Depends if the owner rips you off though with it being xmas

Oi !!!!! I take great offence at that. I would give the price of a week at Xmas on this thread, but the moderators are every where............... Please PM for further details

Why not a trip north to Scandanavia, may even catch the northern lights.

Re: Christmas Holiday

Re the scandinavia idea, last year I did a last minute booking to Finland the week before Christmas. Really nice place and the people are friendly, loads to do (Huskies are recommended), Reindeers, snow mobiles and of course snow boarding etc.

Make sure you're fully covered insurance wise if you go skiing or snowboarding. Including not being able to go back to work through injury

Re: Christmas Holiday

i went to austria with a coach tour afew years ago. wasnt a very enjoyable holiday at all! took nearly 2 full days of travelling to reach the hotel. the scenery was amazing, never seen snow as deep in my life. but been cooped up on a coach for that long with lots of old bids (was about 15 at the time) was really boring.

Re: Christmas Holiday

Thanks all, did the 'North of the Arctic Circle a couple of years ago , Know the coach journey is going to be the real downside, we can either travel overnight and spend I guess about 20 hours on the coach, each way, or have an overnight in Germany, still undecided which option to take tbh.

I had a very similar experience on a family trip to Italy. Must have been about the same age, too. In fact, probably the only saving grace of the trip was at the hotel we stayed in near Venice, where a photoshoot for a gentlemen's publication took place in the courtyard outside my window...
