Question Cooking breakfast...

OK, have been given the task of cooking my lovely girlfirend and her 2 flatmates breakfast on Saturday morning (only fair as been scoffing their dinners!).

So looking for help in becoming a male Delia Lawson/Nigela Smith person type thing.

Anyway if you've any hints/tips/ideas/recommended ingredients for such event I'd be most grateful if you'd share them.

Oh by the way, one of the flatmates used to be a cook in former profession

Bacon eggs and toast always goes down well ...just buy the best bacon, free range eggs and some decent bread

Re: Cooking breakfast...

If you want to be a bit of a show-off, you can add some sauteed potatoes:

1. Wash some Charlotte potatoes and slice them to about the thickness of a pound coin;
2. Heat up come oil in a frying pan, and add the potatoes;
3. Cook until the spuds are golden brown on both sides (should only take a couple of minutes, and depending on the tastes of your "customers", the pan will be ready for some black pudding!)

What sort of oil do you use? I'm thinking that adding a little butter or marg to the oil keeps them soft, rather than their becoming mini frisbees.

How big are their appetites first thing? (Thinking a glass of water and Alka Seltzer here.)

A healthy breakfast though would have to be fresh (carton) juice, or a banana smoothie type thing (make the night before), or some tinned grapefruit perhaps. Followed by a simple bacon and tomato farmhouse bread doorstep (As Octygone says, all to be nice and fresh.) Plenty of tea or decent coffee - and some cereal, croissants and jam to be on the safe side.

Only trouble is, you'll be doing that every morning from then on

Regards
Mo

I'd just use normal vegetable oil - the trick is in the timing!

(In which case might I suggest a dry-run, maff? )

Also worth checking none of them are dieting/vegetarians as some of the suggestions may not go down too well!

If you've got nowhere to go, you can't beat bucks fizz in the morning.

(Don't forget the flower on the table/tray either..)

Re: Cooking breakfast...

If you want to be a bit different, you could make pancakes and then knock up a variety of sweet and savoury fillings for them. Ham, cheese and mushroom is one of my favs

If you can't be bothered to make the batter mix from scratch, you can get powdered sachets for something like 15p each that you just add an egg and water to.

Job's a good'un

Re: Cooking breakfast...

It has to be full breakfast, good quality products as well

Nice pot of fresh coffee on the go to start off with

a mountain of thinnly sliced crispy bacon bought from the butchers,
a large cumberland sausage each again from the butchers
mushrooms cooked in a touch of oil and butter (not marge) until most of the moisture has been drawn out of them
tomato halfed and sprinkled with a touch of caster suger, pepper and drizzled with olive oil and cooked in the oven.
Hash browns
Hienz beans
Bury Black Pudding fried not boiled
two eggs, perfectly dippy.
plenty of bread and toast
to top it off a small piece of serloin steak, medium rare

mmmmmmmmm

Coo! After all this little lot, we've probably given maffwilson heart failure. I doubt he'll come out from under his duvet on Saturday morning at all, if he's any sense that is

Just one - er - pertinent question: Who'll be doing the washing up?
