Dark Age is coming

Bit worrying this.Small piece in Sunday Times mag.

As an oil driven society we are looking for a big fall with reserves to finish in next 40 years.

We are inventing at a slower rate than in the 1600's(apparantly) despite how brilliant we think we are.We invented planes etc and now we have the i pod nano.No proper addressing of fuel replacements.

No progress in space exploration. In fact, seems we are not so clever after all.Supported by many professors/scientists it seems we are heading towards a dark age. They likened it to the Roman Empire scenario.

Well I think there is something in what they say....

So we've got "Orgies and Vomitariums to look forward to" then?

That is assuming the extremes of climate dont dry up and destroy most of the world before then.

When the oil does look like its going to run out I expect we'll see a host of new renewable energy technology from (brief pause) THE OIL COMPANIES!

They deal soley in what is known to be a limited resource so it makes sence that they would be securing their long term future by investing in this. Makes no financial sence for them to release any technology they may have before they absolutely need to

Oh well worse things happen in rome!

Lucky for me I'm one step ahead of the dark ages as I've already got the swords *evil laugh*.

Isn't this like how most sci-fi films end up?

My brain's working overtime now... There were suggestions that tsunamis might be caused by illicit underwater explosions. I naturally assumed it was the evil Doctor No trying to take over the world by cornering the market in wave-power energy.

A world war is always good for a massive leap forward in technology. Fusion power is the way forward when they suss it out.
