| Re: deafness This why I always recommend anyone who doesn't have access to a lift to get a garage to change gear oil; well that and what used gear oil smells like! ![]() Seriously though; best wishes for a speedy recovery. |

| Briskodian | Re: deafness Constituents are mainly parafin based according to this :- AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID Wouldn't have thought that fresh ATF would have done all that much damage, after all people used to take parafin for constipation ? Major constituent of parafin is H20, so most of it should have disapated by now. The Naptha ingredient might burn and I would expect that some ATF would contain traces of molybdenum, which is toxic. More than likely, a piece of dirt from the gearbox/car under side was carried in with the fluid. Did the doc clear it out with his sonic do dah ? Nick

| Briskodian | Re: deafness Being me, shouldn't you find out definitively if any lasting damage has been done? Meaning any irreplaceable burning of tissue whatever. It's not unusual for people to tilt their head to listen through one ear in preference to the other. Are you sure you've not just persuaded your brain to listen through the other ear? If no damage, maybe you could stick a bit of cotton wool in the "good" ear pro tem and retrain your brain to start listening through your "bad" ear? It would seem that the body is very good for remembering habits, like after a sprained ankle that's better and you don't actually need to walk with a limp any more, yet it's only when you say to your brain "Eh Up! 'Tis fine!" that you walk evenly perfectly happily again. Just thinking you ought to satisfy yourself about what's going on. As an aside, one thing about having kids is that you are far more safety conscious about what might potentially happen with any chemicals. I now deck everyone out in full space gear before I even attempt to use washing up liquid. It's true though, since as for oneself, one is far less cautious than one would be if directing someone else. ![]() Regards Mo |

| Re: deafness Mo, I see where you're coming from, but I read Tom as saying that he has an ear infection ATM, so that needs clearing up first. |

| Briskodian | Re: deafness Ken, Ahhh! I see now. I read Tom's post thinking he'd had an infection and it was now his hearing that he hoped would get better. If the infection is still there, then here is a double hug for Tom ![]() Regards to both Mo |

| Re: deafness Bad luck, Tom, but hopefully some good-looking nurses/doctors at your GP clinic put a silver lining on the clouds? Since I've relied on hearing aids for the last 20 years I can understand if you're a bit worried but in your case I'd guess/hope that the loss of hearing follows directly from the infection/inflammation. An infected ear canal (I've had it once) can be painful and the (repeated) cleaning out is a nuisance and may take a few weeks, but in due course it should be OK. As long as the ear drum is intact I don't think that anything irreparable should have happened to the more delicate parts inside.
