I recently posted a joke which I found quite funny but it was deleted as it was deemed to contain " Unacceptable Comments and was Racist ". It contained reference to people who came from a Continent West of Europe and East of Japan and from country's once enclosed within the Iron Curtain. Firstly I would like to appologise for the comments with reference to these people, they were not intended as discribed by the person who deleted the tread and I have taken his comments on board...... Therfore, if I was from one of the country's mentioned and told the same joke, would that thread have been deleted. ( ie:- Irish person telling Irish Jokes ) is that racist ??. If anyone post any jokes about people who live in the Emmerald Isle will they have to start it with " Have you heard about the person who lives on the Island West of Wales "....Not...." There was this Irish Bloke who................" Surly telling Jokes about Those people and those living in the country to the west of Birmingham and those North of the Border must be taken in the same context..............Or are those acceptable..."Just trying to clarify a point".......Thanks for reading....................Andy

The joke was inappropriate for this forum and could be seen as racist, which is what I said to you in the pm. That is why it was deleted.

Not eveyone will find them funny.

I got one today and I was PMSL so I sent it on but my m8 did not think it was funny.

I'm open minded and not that bothered about things like this but it could offend others

there will always be someone upset by a joke, some of the topical ones which do the rounds via text when there is something in the news, are very offensive, to some, working in a dock enviroment its normal day to day language,

Most jokes these days seem to be poking fun at some less fortunate person or nationality than ourselves. We seem to have become a very mean minded nation, and it seems to be reflected in our humour. We always were insular and frightened of foreigners, now we seem to have become downright hostile.

I have no real sensible comments to make, sometimes I do find jokes offensive, if so I ignore them as I'm sure the tellee had good intentions (actually maybe not always), as to whether an open forum is the right place for them...

Yeah but at the end of the day that joke was sent to you by someone you know, meaning that person would know you wouldnt get offended by it.

Its not the same on a public forum. I got a cracking joke today about the paralympics but I sure as hell wouldn't post it on a public forum, someone is bound to get offended regardless of how I personally feel about disabled people.

We had a discussion about it and it was agreed the post should be deleted, I feel it was the right thing to do.

My Dad told me this story once... he used to own a restraunt in Aintree and one of his regular customers was an Irish Gent who had been very sucessful in property development.

He told my dad that there was nothing as funny as hearing an English person tell an English, Irish, Scotish joke... because in Ireland it's the English person that comes off looking like the idiot.

Role reversal as it were

We're becoming a touchy nation of politically correct bores really aren't we?

I can understand why the joke was deleted... we don't want to find ourselves pounced on by the pc brigade or something do we!

It boils down to respect at the endof the day and realising you may hurt someones feelings. There are enough clots out there doing it everyday we dont need it on here.

In theory yes it should have done.

We must try and stick to the same rules all the time. However we are only human and sometimes dont spot everything. Thats why there is a report post button.

My only comment is that a website itself can come under fire for allowing things to be posted or to remain. Who knows what's acceptable or not these days? Basically nothing is! I don't see why issues can't be debated - well, yet at least.

Incidentally, I could only view one of the YouTubes if I signed in as being old enough etc. I guess there are a lot of people who can pull the plug.

It is true that so many jokes are at the expense of others. I seem to recall starting a thread for jokes which were not, the most usually memorable being "Q: What's brown and sticky? A: A stick" There were lots of others, but I doubt they'd be the ones circulating via email LOL.

I think everyone is concerned about anything they say nowadays.

Having said that,I don't find any of the McCann jokes funny,nor did I find Billy Connoly and the hostage one funny.At all.

This joke on here wasn't too bad.
