My Diamond Back moutnain bike, got it for my birthday 10yrs ago. I'm sure this is one of those threads that the old folk on here will "win" easily

Nick's MG or Octygone's Tractor, for example.

Actually, I think WayneKerr "Old man steptoe" must have some old clobber

Dont really have that much thats old, but 2 things spring to mind.

Bush Alarm clock radio, 22 years old and still works fine.
Toshiba Libretto 110CT, 8 years old and still works fine, and to think I paid 2K for it in 1998.

Re: Disposable society..oldest thing you own/use?

I have a 1972 car and a 1983 one. I have a grandfather clock that's about 220 years old and keeps time to around 15 seconds a week. I have a number of watches from the 60s and 70s. My desktop PC is about 10 years old although I don't use it much these days. Most of my stereo was bought when I was a student over 20 years ago. My Suffolk Colt lawnmower originally belonged to the wife's grandad and we inherited it when we bought our first house 26 years ago - still runs just fine.

That enough to keep you going....?

Re: Disposable society..oldest thing you own/use?

An interesting thread this one, it got me thinking. Not including the house or furniture, I reckon the oldest things are bits of my Hi Fi: 25+years, One of my bicycles:17years, Victorinox penknife:20years. I have a watch that belonged to my Grandad, but sadly it doesn’t work anymore. But I’m thinking of getting it fixed, well if we still have anybody left in this country who has the necessary skills. I’ve also got bits and bobs handed to me from my mum like cutlery, china, linen etc. some of this is around 50 years old or more and still in daily use.

Re: Disposable society..oldest thing you own/use?

Hobbs of Barbican hand built touring bike frame (frame no.526) made in 1953. Passed on to me by my Dad on my 16th birthday (in1979). Has been through many mods under my ownership, as originally equipped with Sturmey archer 4 speed hub gears, but currently has 21 speed Campag Athena groupset and 700c wheels (shortened the forks and triangles). Has done thousands of miles. Went missing for several weeks in 1982 but was dredged from a lake somewhere between pub and home after a brief moment of clarity.

Ah yes, forgot - I have a Claude Butler road bike that I bought secondhand when I was 17 (31 years ago) - not as old as your Hobbs though.

'58 Morris Minor

Other than that have not felt the need to update my stereo for about 15 years(Wharfedale Diamond 1 speakers, Dual deck, Marantz CD player, Denon amp) and my TV, a lousy old Grundig thing, is ancient.

Probably most sadly i've still got loads of clothes from student days (i.e. over 15 years old)

Re: Disposable society..oldest thing you own/use?

I have nothing of any real age, especially not in daily use.

I have an eye piece microscope thing my grandad bought by dad when he was 16, so thats a good 35 years old, and I still use it on field trips and the like.

My Golf GTI, been family owned since it was new back in 1986.

Other than that, still got a watch I was bought for my 16th birthday, needs a new battery though.

So nothing exciting at all really.

Re: Disposable society..oldest thing you own/use?

I have a pair of jodhpurs (from when I had a horse) that my mum first bought a few weeks before she found out she was pregnant with me. She also fell off doing a sports horse event in them (while pregnant, but before she knew).

I also have a goldfish that was bought to teach me responsibility before I got a dog. Learnt responsibility, and have a dog for the last 9 years. This bloody fish is still alive even though I clean out the tank with bleach and forget to feed it for a week.

My car is 13 years old.

Re: Disposable society..oldest thing you own/use?

Pioneer record deck and Ortofon cartridge JVC amplifier and JR 149 loudspeakers circa 1977. Still sounds good. (Just replaced amp and speakers only because new CD player wouldn't work properly with it)
Stamp collection from younger days including Penny Black 1840.
First electronic calcualtor 1974/5 cost £10.
Electric drill inherited from my dad about 1955.

Hifi:
Luxman L-510, around 1982-1985.
Luxman L-81, aorund 1977-1978.

I use the L-510 as primary amp, and the L-81 as backup.

I owned them both for around 4-5 years, and i`m 21, so they are older than me. :-)
