Do Skoda know who you are?

It's a known fact that Skoda read this site and match user names to vehicles for their own purposes.

Some people are very easy for them to identify when they post using their real name , but how many of you reckon that somewhere at Skoda HQ there is a database with your name on it?

I'm pretty sure they will know who I am as I have posted about warranty work that I've had done and mentioned when and where it was carried out

I'm also pretty sure I could identify quite a few other people who's names might appear.

Do you reckon you are on a list?

You know , it might be interesting to write to them and request a copy of the information they hold under the data protection act.

Data Protection FAQs – For the public

What's the betting this thread gets noted and causes a few emails to be sent round at HQ?

Re: Do Skoda know who you are?

No , me neither.
My car isn't modified beyond the addition of a briskoda sticker but I wouldn't mind seeing how much , if any , detail they record about what goes on here

Likewise I have nothing to hide. I still find it incredible that SUK are actually dedicating time and resources to scouring this site to link cars with people and spot possible warranty breaches.

Re: Do Skoda know who you are?

My car is totally standard so i have nothing to hide. However if people had a database with my details on it linked against here they would get a letter under the DPA quicker than quick and a complaint.

Hello

You know my name, and you know I live in Devon. I make zero attempt to hide my registration plate, and I quite public about the mods. If there is anymore information you require, don't hesitate to contact me.

Lots of Love

Emily-Elizabeth Cross

P.S. Thanks for the bushes fitted under warranty, even though I have modified suspension. That was really nice of you Oh, how can I forget how knidly you coughed up for my new oil filler cap after I broke mine from the sturt brace accident.

P.P.S Now my warranty has expired, I very much doubt you will ever see my car at a dealership again until you coperate more with the site.

Bye now

Re: Do Skoda know who you are?

mine is well out of warrenty, they can have a test drive if they want

we'll just go through teh same procedure when i asked them for a test drive, they can ask me in person then i will promise a responce but 3 months later they can call me and ask for a test drive when i will again promise a responce, then a further couple of months later they can email me and ask for to ignore that attempt aswell then they go and get lost

customer service, how needs such a waste of money in this day and age?

My cars a 2001 plate. The only thing SUK would probably note about my motor is solely for the novelty factor, or the "wtf?" factor!

Re: Do Skoda know who you are?

I thought the DPA is only applicable on information you provide to the company you are dealing with? In other words, if another company, who you have no dealings with, decides to maintain information about things in a database, or whatever, it isn't accessible under the DPA? I'm no expert though, so I may be completely wrong

Re: Do Skoda know who you are?

AS i read the DPA (which I do, frequently, with gusto) you can request information from a company if you have reason to believe they may have details about you, regardless of is you have dealings with them ie requestion your file from police or MI5 etc.........that MP guy, Norman somethingorother did it.

However, there is recurring case involving Barclays, the FSA and a chap called Michael Durant where a judge ruled that the bloke coulsn't use the DPA to go on a fishing expedition to get information. That's the rough outline, if you want a more detailed discussion and application, go here
Durant | FSA | European Court of Human Rights | Strasbourg | Barclays - sponsored by VeriSign

Re: Do Skoda know who you are?

I have had some work done on the car under warranty, and some not under warranty, because my car was modified at some stage.

Breathing over 60k this weekend so warranty is pretty much gone for the car except where it is a minor problem I suppose.

Unfortunately my Skoda dealership experience has been a mixed one at best, and a disappointing/infuriating one at worst - combined with the higher pricing vs VW dealerships (and specialist tuners) I will be less likely to revisit.

If SUK knows who I am I would like them to pay for the head-related work on my car, caused by not identifying a broken thermostat even though I reported overheating - nope they're not gonna get any money from me..

Re: Do Skoda know who you are?

They browse this site? Ok cool.

Dear Skoda,

My car is cool, but only because I made it to be exactly what I want. I think you could do better on alloy wheel design though. Thumbs up to excellent multi-spoke alloys though, and thumbs up to you for selecting an excellent dealer to provide us with great service over here in the desert where camels are the primary form of transportation.

One major thing that has upset me, and many other proud Skoda owners on here...the fact that you have taken our Ross away from us is very upsetting and if I could talk to my car and tell it that I think her father sucked, I would, because Ross (being our online mechanic and your Skoda Superman) did everything he could to advise correctly on taking care of machinery you provided us with, that we paid for.

Please see that you return Ross, otherwise I'll have to put my blue suit and red underwear on...you really don't want that to happen.

Yours Sincerely,

Miltiadis Nicolaos Kyvernitis
Fabia 2.0 Veyron-Slayer owner.

Re: Do Skoda know who you are?

Hello denziens of Skoda HQ

I was so unimpressed with your treatment of people, one in particular, I voted with my feet. I sold my Fabia and went to a completely different manufacturer when needing a bigger car.

The Octy II VRS was in my price range, but I didn't even bother to drive it.

Should I decide to come back to VAG it will be through the Germans or the Spanish.

Re: Do Skoda know who you are?

Hi SUK - you can work out who I am if you want. The dirt on my car is a performance enhancing mod, therefore I expect you to cancel my warranty with immediate effect.

Oh, BTW, you're getting too big for your boots and the USP of your brand is slowly disappearing with every price rise and service drop. My next car will most likely be a SEAT

Also, what's to say that anyone on here is telling the truth about their mods - for all you know it could all be made up by us to make us look 'cool'.

Re: Do Skoda know who you are?

Well my car is still under warranty and is still completely standard apart from the in car entertainment changes which my local dealer are well aware of (they had to help me get the power feed in for starters ), only warranty work I've had was a wiper motor and yes I expect they know who I am if they've bothered to look into it - who cares? I have nothing to hide and haven't done anything to my car to invalidate it's warranty anyway.
I have to say that when it comes up to MOT time (first one) I'll be getting the car checked thoroughly and expecting any faults to be fixed foc under warranty - my pledge to the dealer when they helped me out getting the car sourced was they'd be getting future servicing work etc and as long as they play fair that will happen, if they get dirty on me then I'll vote with my feet and go elsewhere!
It's a shame that suk seem to feel a need for this type of snooping.

Must get around to going freedom so I can find out what happened to Ross
