Driving to Munich

Right I'm bored and thinking of driving over to Munich to see a friend out there, so obvious questions:

- What do you need to have in the car (warning triangle, spare bulbs, first aid and high vis + 3mm tyres?)

- Anywhere worth stopping off on the way apart from the ring

- How much is fuel over there and anybody any idea how many Euro you would need for a 4-5 day trip.

Re: Driving to Munich

Fuel on diesel side is a fair bit cheaper, about 30% IIRC. Petrol is about the same from what I recall but you've got derv anyway

How are you planning to travel there, i.e. do the Speedferries thing?

Re: Driving to Munich

Ferry from here to either Calais or Dunkirk, then hit the road and go for it.

Flights are stupidly expensive and i figure why not

Re: Driving to Munich

By using speedferries you will save a fortune on the crossing part of the trip, it adds about 30 mins IIRC from when I went there last time.

Fuel cost is quite low, even at motorways

Re: Driving to Munich

According to VRStu, you would be mad not to visit Audi factory and from what I have seen of his pics etc. I would agree. Makes the Skoda one look totally inadequate in comparison.

Re: Driving to Munich

Audi Factory at Ingolstadt is a must. They do several tours a day but only 1 english speaking one which is mid day.

Audi Worldwide > Company > Audi Forums > Ingolstadt

We booked a hotel via Last Minute.com which was really good.

Re: Driving to Munich

Just checked, got a spare warning triangle, and pretty sure first aid kit too. High vis jacket at home IIRC. Drop me a line, can borrow it if you like.

As for bulb kit, you need a suitable bulb for your headlights, side lights arent essential IIRC, indicators/brake lights and normal rear lights need to work.

Re: Driving to Munich

Just about to set off for the south of France , Dover-Dunkirk on Norfolk line, totally inadequate ferry facilities but only £43 return , visiting Millau early in week, should be on the ring Wednesday eve, and possibly Thurs, but can't really afford to miss 10pm ferry this time

Re: Driving to Munich

I have a friend who lives near Munich, so should be staying at her place for a few nights saying on the hotel. She mentioned Oktoberfest too, so I think that, the Audi factory and a certain de restricted toll road will be on the list.

I'm currently trying to get the European maps for a TomTom one and a visit to the dealer to pick up a bulb kit and I think I have the rest covered

Munich has the BMW building, with the bubble cars in there, that is also worth visiting.

Re: Driving to Munich

There's always one... or two in this case

Now gone

Before you ask, no you can't have their phone numbers or addresses and no they are not single; although whether that would stop some people

I'll stay away from the dealers and factories or there is a real risk I'd go in a Skoda and come back in a BMW.
