Electrical goods

After reading Pixi's thread about the TV breaking down within 4 months it got me thinking about the amount of appliances ive had to replace over the last couple of years.

4 Washing machines within 5 and a half years.

3 Vacuum cleaners in just over two years.

Samsung wide screen TV - dead after one year (full refund given).

Grundig 32" wide screen TV - problems after one year.

JVC DVD surround system- dead after a year and a half.

Philips DVD recorder - dead after year and a half.

Panasonic DVD recorder - problems after one year.

Matsui (i know its cheap but it was for the spare room) - dead after 5 months.

2 freeview boxes - dead after one year.

Anyone else got a list that long?

Good advice if you have the money to buy expensive stuff in the first place.

That said, a mate has a Lowe* TV set that cost him loads, nothing but trouble its been back to the dealer 4 times in two years.

Miele stuff is very nice and I know people who have had them for years but they are very expensive as far as I remember.

Ill start saving

Re: Electrical goods

The cooker built into my kitchen blew up a few weeks back but that was there when I moved in so I don't know how old it was.

Other than that I'm struggling to think of anything electrical I've owned that has died as opposed to being replaced cause I fancied a newer one.

My washing machine is 8 years old now , as is the fridge freezer.

I've never had a TV or stereo die.

Oh , the tuner in my video packed up 5 years ago but the rest is still working and in occasional use.

I did kill a strimmer once but that was user abuse

Aren't Lowe just glorified Phillips gubbins in a nice cabinet?

As for Miele stuff being dear, I suppose initial hit wise it is. But as it lasts longer, you save money over time.

Re: Electrical goods

Tosh 32" telly, still good after about 9 years, now hosts the PS2 in the games room upstairs, got another 32" tosh in the lounge I bought 2 years ago.

My 7 year old PC is still in good order, 2 PSU's, 2 new hard drives, 2 motherboards, 3 processors and a new graphics card is all its ever needed...........

Dyson: Fitted a new motor to it after 2 years and a new hose a few weeks ago at three years old so not too bad.

My Pioneer Dolby digital amp literally went bang last year as well so I bought a nice shiny Yamaha amp to replace it.

My Dell laptop needed a new motherboard just after a year or so which was a real pain.

Re: Electrical goods

I got one of those LG Direct Drive Washing Machines, because of a free 5 Year Guarantees (Parts & Labour) and they are quite reasonable. Work on the principle a 5 Year Guarantee for free, must mean the manufacturer has confidence in the product or they would lose loads on call outs. So far four years in no problems and with two kids its used every day.

Some of the Miele washers come with a 10 yr parts and labour warranty.

One word : Miele - The washers come with a 5/10 year guarantee and have heard on plenty go on for 25 years. The things start at about £500 but are built to last rather than just to last the time it's guaranteed

EDIT: Ooops looks like i was beaten to that comment

Re: Electrical goods

Panasonic - A brand I've come to trust for quality in the long run. I have a 7 year old telly, 8 year old VCR, 13 year old hifi system. The only thing Panasonic that ever packed up on me was a combi oven/microwave, and that was OLD and well used.

See what you have done now. You are tempting fate.

The thing I really like about Miele washers/dryers is that they are sooo quiet.

No fate tempting here, I know they won't dare go wrong and force me to get the tools out on them.
Anyway, Miele spares take no more than 3 days to arrive
