No, I'm one of those that should have it and the docs always push me too but for some reason I never do. I've had other jabs for stuff so it isn't the thought of the needle.

What is the worst that could happen if I do have it?

What are the criteria for having a Flu Jab. I assume people with lung problems etc, but is there an age point were they are recommend the jab? As you can tell I haven’t been following this much this year.

Funnily enough, I didn't used to have them - even when exposed daily to people with flu etc.
One bad episode of flu 3 years ago, then I started to get the jab yearly. It works.
It can't protect against every strain just yet, but even if you do get flu, your body responds well enough to make it a minor episode, not a at-death's-door-knocking-loudly effort....
Other thing is it breaks the chain of transmission - you help others by getting the jab...

Stricly speaking only OAP, people who smoke, have heart/lung disease, children with a chronic illness, etc really NEED them, but if a simple jab can prevent lost work time, feeling rotten and giving it to all your kids, friends, SWMBO etc think it's worth it....

Our local GP says if you have asthma and only the blue (ventolin) inhaler then they don't push you to have the jab, but if your asthma is more severe (green/brown inhaler etc) they pester you to have the jab.

I get 2 or 3 colds (or some sort of thing that makes me feel grotty) a year, but I think I have only had ‘Real’ flu twice in my life. I couldn’t believe how poorly I felt though.

I was offered it from work but I would've had to have gone down to Gloucs for it so opted not to ...

I had flu a couple of Christmases ago, I've never felt so ill. It felled me for about 3 weeks.

Turned down flu jab at uni. I'm not good with needles anyway. However, it was a different story with the meningitis jab! I definitely had that!

Not covered to get one, but can pay £18.

Dont see the point myself UNLESS medically it could be fatal.

Last time I worked in an office, 'management' almost insisted everyone had a jab - I don't agree with such (pointless for healthy people) things so I didn't. Within weeks just about everyone (except me) was down with flu - how do you explain that?

Isn't the jab basically the flu in a supposedly weakened form?

I think so, they give you a small dose of flu and the body sorts it out. It's the strain of flu they think might be around so you still might cath flu if it's not that strain.................

The theory of you being injected with a weak form of the virus was completely discounted by the PH nurses that come over to our place to stab everyone.

I'm always way too busy at that actual time, on that actual day to have one. Thank the Lord for warning emails

Public health isn't my area so I would be researching as anyone else would be. I could ask when they come over, but I would risk getting stabbed if I actually acknowledged their existance on the ward. I will ask a colleague to ask them! Or maybe Bas will answer this before hand.

They may have actually been lying to us to make us have it, who knows?

Better get it - very nasty 'flu has already appeared in the UAE and recently in Bahrain. With these days of air travel it's only a matter of time b4 it hits the UK....

Re: Flu Jabs............" Had Yours Yet...?? "

Well I just did a bit of Googling and there are 2 types of vaccine, inactivated & merely weakened flu virus.

Supposedly cannot cause flu, but the listed side affects sound just like flu LOL, and transmission of 'flu' to third parties from vaccinated individuals has been proven!

Sometimes (lots) of people have quite a severe allergic reaction - luckily there is an established compensation program.

As the vaccines are prepared in advance, they guess what strains will be prevalent, so you might not even be covered if an outbreak occurs.

All things considered, it seems rather daft having it, unless you have special reasons.

Re: Flu Jabs............" Had Yours Yet...?? "

Suggest you google for "herd immunity", lol.
Also look up IgM and it's function.

Then compare the statistical likelihood of dying from a severe reaction to the vaccine to that of being run over while crossing the high street.

I wouldn't label the decision to have one or not as "daft". Just personal choice....
