Re: Flying the Flag

I was worried it was going to be a pair of those mahoosive ones lodged in the rear windows. But that one's OK. Where did it come from?

Re: Flying the Flag

Hmmm if its only a push fit - I see an easier way to get hold of one. Are you going to the C&F meet?

Re: Flying the Flag

Never seen this one before. Look good tho.

My friend got one of those Mickey Mouse head thing attached to the aerial, but it generated "bang bang ......." noise when the car goes near 80mph. Didn't know it was caused by the Mickey Mouse Head, until his 3rd visit to the dealer.

Very narrow minded point of view. I for one don't support yob behaviour. Football is a fantastic game shared by millions Worldwide. It is often spoilt by the TINY minority of fools who go OTT, bit like you with your view
Sure to ......

Re: Flying the Flag

If people are so proud of their nation / heritage, surely they would display such items all the time - not just for some sporting event?

As for me being OTT, I have nothing against people who wish to display the flag or liking football - I'm a reasonable man. I let my servants have time off once per week so that they can watch Match of the Day

Re: Flying the Flag

To use your acronym I've seen much worse c.h.a.v. flags being displayed in/on cars than a little aerial tag on.

And stop baiting. Sort our your numberplates!

Isn't it illegal to display any flags on cars so there was a special dispensation for the last World Cup? I saw the first flag today; none on St George's Day.

I'm just wondering if we'll see Sven choosing a player from Accrington Stanley...

My flags were on the car on St. Georges Day, and I saw quite a few others round here

As a football coach of some 30 years, your opinions are rather hollow and narrow. I suggest you 'engage brain' before posting, or not at all

Be careful if I were you Chris. You may be branded a 'naughty boy' and get put on detention (I mean banned) for having an opinion 'the club' doesn't agree with.

Re: Flying the Flag

Well not being able to see the original picture since it seems to have been removed, I can't really comment, but I certainly won't be putting any flags on my car during the football World Cup.

Whilst I respect others' right to enjoy football, shout for their team, or the highly talented, overpaid bunch of selfish individuals who are forced to play together under the banner of a national team, I can't raise the slightest bit of enthusiasm for it, due to the characteristics that Jon refers to. I hope they win, but I know they won't.

Re: Flying the Flag

Well, I thought it was an interesting point. TaviaRS points out that we're in a bad way patriotically if football is pretty much the only time we do display the flag, with which I agree. You (edit robbo51) object, presumably, because he refers to it as a yob sport.

I believe it's a family and pals sport, but certainly not some games and locations, where it's likely to be unsafe because of the yob element, who often aren't even fans.

Intensive media coverage of some derbies and some internationals doesn't help football's cause - more particularly England's cause abroad. It was reported that some European fans are already gearing up to tackle our fans once they arrive

Opinions are welcomed, never banned anyone for having one.

I have however banned people for personal abuse and deliberate and continued trolling, if they didin't heed the warnings given.

Oh, I did engage brain. As Mo has pointed out, the "public" has these perceptions about fans, especially the older "public". The game itself is not yobbish, although, looking at the way the players behave on the pitch, it shows a certain lack of discipline or respect. If a rugby player gave 1/10 the lip to a ref over a decision, he'd be on a yellow card or sent off.

As a coach, do you teach people that the ref's decision is final? When do players start deciding it is OK to abuse the ref? Suggests to me that either better coaching (so the message sinks in and stays there) or stronger reffing are required.

This in turn spills over to off the pitch, "I can argue with authority and don't have to respect other people"

Sorry, I'm getting old....
