Foodie Thread Warning........

So I got back from Shifty's earlier today.
You outdid yourself today mate. Truly a whale. My Grandad really struggled, but did it anyway......

Even though I was stuffed to the gills.....
I went to the kitchen and got cooking :

BBQ Chicken (Jim Beam BBQ Sauce......
Mash Potatoes (butter, salt, pepper, cream, loads of grated nutmeg)
Steamed Shredded Cabbage (butter and pepper)
Corn on The Cob (butterrrrrrrr)
Bourbon & Cream Sauce........double

But, I was most pleased with the BOURBON BEANS....
I stuffed TWO dried Aji Limo chillies, after slicing into them, in about 250ml of Jack Daniels earlier in the week, and i've been shaking it a bit each day.
Onions, garlic, tomatoes, a tablespoon of the Jim Beam Sauce, hot water, about 1lb of Rose Coco Beans and a tin of Kidney bean.......then the chillies soaked in JD.....simmer gently for an hour......add more JD.........and then a tablesoon of sugar......
I'm salivating right now.
Though there might be a re-run of the Buncefield explosion later.......

Hi Jo

Interestingly, I was thinking of posting a handy tip that I heard on the telly about chewing gum so that apparently your eyes don't run when peeling onions.

I reckon thats:

Nil points to Mo
and about 99 to Gwilo

My only question is: what happens to leftover JD after you've fished out the marinading items? Hair of the dog?

Mate, I was sat in my office, you should have asked for me.

Sorry I missed you, again.

there was a conversation about this on the radio a few weekends ago. They concluded that to stop any crying happening whilst peeling onions-you need to block up your nose. This way it stops the smell getting into the nose and sinuses. having chewing gum or bread or anything similar in your mouth dosent work at all. HTH

Re: Foodie Thread Warning........

FAO Gwilo: I thought the alcohol burned off (evaporated) during cooking? The hic must be from inhaling the fumes then? *Notes handy tip*

Thanks Lorna - it seems the idea is to block the nose for onions and leave it clear for the JD then

I never cease to be impressed by the amount I learn from Briskoda

Wait till you own your own car - i.e. if I put all my small handfuls in a heap, they'd probably fill a 13 metre artic and then some...

... and a good few ovens-worth as well .

Plus I'm having to allocate extra brain space to accommodate all these new handy tips...

Regards
Mo
