Well my Grandad is home after causing a scare to my dad and auntie by leaving the hospital before they arrived. It turns out that the ward placed a security guard on his bed to keep watch of him over night! The medication must have doped him quite badly, after managing to convince him to stay till 3pm in the hospital my auntie and dad took him home where they found a gas leak in the house!!

I popped in last night and in my opinion I think he is still quite doped up as I'm sure he fell down the stairs when he came to answer the door, and you could smell the gas in the house. He told me he had things to do like washing and taking apart the gas fire, to which I replied you should be resting.

His surgery went well think they removed a grade 1 tumour a non malignent one on his bladder which is good but think he needs to go back in a fortnight for more scans.

Think my dad done that, my dad thinks the leak has been there for years and my grandad took great delight in showing me yesterday where it comes from as a plumber many years ago he had to install gas fires so the one in his house was installed by him!

It's scary when he lit it but he knows what to do.

Aye my dad thinks the leak has been there for years a slight leak but with no one being in the house for a few days the smell built up.

Anyhow myself and Hannah might make him some tea for when I go up on Sunday so he is not cooking so thats my saturday taken care of.

I had my mobile on last night in case anything happended but lucky nothing happended as I could be at his house in two mins from SWMBO's as thats where the car is parked overnight.

Not trying to be funny mate, but any kind of gas leak should be dealt with by the gas board etc..

No matter how much your dad/grandad think they know.

Only takes one accident and thats it.

Point taken Johnny, My dad is dealing with it, think he was a bit annoyed that my grandad would do it all himself!

Just concerned for his safety thats all. (and his neighbours)

Even if he's competent at repairs, just being out of hospital, and on medication is bound to sway his judgement at the moment.

But good to hear he's out.
Was gonna give you a call lastnight as i cycled into town (to me my grandad) but was pouring rain so i went straight home.

A wee update as I just found this thread.

Since moving away from home I do not get filled in with all the details to my grandads health but since the last post his health has come down a bit. He is about to go on a course of radiotherapy over 10 days I beleive to break up a kidney stone as he has had problems with going to the bathroom and has to wear a bag around his leg on top of that he has angina and with him living at a top of a hill he finds it can take him a hour to walk back up a hill which would take me 5 to 10 minutes. I received a phone call yesterday to ask me to take him to the library which is just down the road from him as he did not want to bother my dad (who is closer to him than me) as my dad has been running him to the hospital every so often.

I feel that he is confused as well as he wanted me to come up today to take his car a wee run for him and when I mentioned it to him on leaving he said not to bother as I had other things to do even through he suggested the idea.

Going to pop up over the weekend and see how he is doing?

Really glad took this week off so I could help him and take him to the hospital.

Not so good Davy,
I suspect it will be Lithotripsy he's getting though, not Radiotherapy.

Radiotherapy is used as a cancer treatment, Lithotripsy is the shock wave treatment.

They're good at the Western, they'll look after him well.

Got to admit he is a tough old cookie, seems to shrug of what's going wrong with him with ease and not let it worry him

Myself, Hannah and my auntie and uncle cleaned his house the other day when he was at hospital appointment number one as do not think it had been cleaned for about seven years since my gran passed away and he was grateful for it.

He certainly knows where the biscuit tin is anyway.

A wee update - Start's his course of Lithotripsy on Wednesday of next week and I'm quite relieved as I think it is causing him too much grief as he was taken to hospital on Tuesday night again.

Was up at his house last night to change a lightbulb for him as he managed to get the bulb out but when he tried to stick the new bulb in, because his house has a high ceiling, he could not manage and the weight of the glass cover was putting a strain on the light on the ceiling, which I had to screw back on for him.

Think in the last few weeks I have noticed a dramatic change in his general health.

Well Grandad has been admitted to hospital, an ambulance was called this morning, he was going up the stairs and fell down them, think lost his balance, do not know too much but he's in the western in edinburgh at the moment.

He has been like this the last few days falling about the place, my dad thinks he has suffered a stroke and thats why he keeps falling.
