Funny phone calls :(

Each day when I get home from work there is a missed call on the hous ephone, always the same time of day, always the same numebr.

I've rang it back at all times of day and night and its always busy.

Seems really odd.

Done a google on the number and got a result of:

... The number is constantly busy, so there they remain unidentified. Any information
would be welcomed about who is behind this number: Truro (01872) 260795. ...

I click to get to the page from google and i get an error.

Ideas?

Hi

I'm wondering if it's one of those computer dialling systems that just keeps going till it gets an answer and then spouts a recorded message, possibly repeating the same numbers in a given area?

If there's no adverse effect from it (e.g. bad messages or heavy breathing etc), what is your thinking for not just ignoring it? Unless of course you answer and find you've won the lottery, free holiday etc

Lets all log a fault on the line with BT - say a phone pylon is down or something equally bad.

We'll have 20 technicians lined up there tomorrow morning.

I think those recorded messages you get played at you down the phone are downright dangerous and should be made illegal, you cant hang up on them!

If you put down the phone then pick it up again 5 mins later its still there playing away, what if someone needed to dial 999 in the meantime, I can see a big lawsuit coming on one day!!

I have the same problem, but this time its to my mobile phone. Again always the same number and time. I also tried phoning just to get the engaged tone.

I found a solution for my mobile, I simply added the number to my address book, created a blank mp3 file and assigned that custom ringtone to the entry. So now everytime they call, I just see a missed call but at least the phone no longer rings from that number.

edit. Judging by that google post, you are not alone.

yup, the Telephone preference service, takes about a month to fully activate but has solved all my woes with cold callers, does not affect international cold callers though

I ended up just changing my no. and going Ex directory in the process. My number is also withheld except to friends and relatives in my phones memory.No cold calls anymore except Onetel (our fault for signing up with them) and ironically BT even though we are with NTL. BT ring now and then and ask us if we are happy with our BT service and would we be interested in any of their call saver options. Idiots.
