| Gas & electric - how much are you paying? As the title suggests - I have now got the right hump with my supplier, I live in a small three bed detached house and last year I was paying £80.00 a quarter for electric. After various increases I am now paying £80.00 a month. last year I was paying £25.00 per month for gas and again after increases I am now paying £45.00 per month. I received a letter from my supplier to say that they now want £64.00 per month for gas and on top of that they want £350.00 to bring my account up to date That will make a grand total of £432.00 per quarter for gas and electric not including the £350.00 bonus pi$$ take payment. Is it me or does this sound a bit much. Didnt get time to phone them today but some poor sod is going to get an ear full in the morning. By the way the company is London Energy, they supply both my gas and electric which they give me a discount for and another small discount for DD payments. | Re: Gas & electric - how much are you paying? I live in a 3 bedroom terraced house with single glazing and gas central heating, and my combined bill is £60 per month. Spunds like you're paying a bit more than you should be, but then there have been major price rises recently.

| Re: Gas & electric - how much are you paying? I'm with EDF Energy, because they are pretty cheap and give Nectar Points and pay £64 a month for both. Live in a three bed semi with Gas Central Heating, Electric Oven & Hob, and the wife is in all day so 32" CRT TV on all day, plus heating, have two kids so the washer is constantly going oh and I work from Home so two PC's on nearly all the time. My house is really energy efficient though, with Combi Boiler now that has paid for itself in the 2 years it has been in, had new Rad's as well the very thin flush fitting ones that don't hold much water. Have cavity wall & loft insulation, double glazing and energy saving light bulbs where possible. But it's a pity me & the wife don't save energy. My office has 8 x 50Watt 240V Downlights in them and the kitchen has 12, saves on heating I suppose. So in summary I use more electric than gas by a long way, just need to cut back on the electric.

| Re: Gas & electric - how much are you paying? I managed to blow my boiler up 2 Christmas’ ago. The upshot of this was a long cold winter and the arrival of a new Combi-Condenser boiler last autumn. I don’t really know what my bills will work out at, as I used a huge amount of electricity over the afore mentioned winter of desolation and very little gas, so I’m still balancing the two bills up if you see what I mean. But what I can say is, the new boiler uses less than half the amount of gas than my 30+year old boiler that went Boom-boom. It really is as efficient as they say (95%+ or something) It’s a Bosch 37kw one, and it’s apparently a bit bigger than I need, but if fills the bath really quickly. It’s kinda like some of you guys Fabia vRS’s, small, powerful, but without the soot. |

| Re: Gas & electric - how much are you paying? In the winter I pay about $150 a month for gas and about $100-150 for electric, $75 for water per month. In the summer I pay $10 for gas (standing charge) and $250-275 for electric (A/C) and $175 for water per month (sprinklers) I can't wait to move back to the UK!!!

| Re: Gas & electric - how much are you paying? Thats a lot more for your utilities in the states than over here. Kind of balances out the fuel cost differences a bit

When I lived in an apartment our bills were about 60% of what I quoted above, apart from water which was a tenth of what we pay now (no garden = no sprinkler costs).
