| Briskodian | Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! Evening all, After a little bit of help really, the good lady was in her car (black astra 2.2 SRI) on the way to boots on the local retail park, the traffic was bumper to bumper and the car in front a 2000 x reg scooby slams its brakes on, my girlfriend stops well short of the car in front, the driver and passenger get out and start screaming that she has hit them, as it was rush hour my girlfriend pulls onto the car park with them to discuss further, they get out again and rush over to her and ask her if she knows how to drive and how long her has had her license as she is only 21, (fact is she has held is for 5 years) she insists she didnt hit them and then he points to a scratch / scuff on the recess of his rear bumper, she then proceeds to point out that the scratch is too low and her bumper is much higher up and with it being in the recess would not have hit, they look at her car and its perfect, not even a scuff, scratch, dent or dead fly on the front, with this he is getting more and more angry pulling and kicking his bumper saying its come lose, he is threatening to phone the police and its all her fault as she went into the back of him, she keeps denying, the scratch is on the left hand side of the bumper just above the exhaust and to the left he writes his details down and gives them to her, he writes - A Smith, More than, she had to take a photo of the reg to get his plate, he then asks her for the same she tells him but also gives him her phone number so he can call her, he wouldnt supply any more, she has phoned the police and is going down tomorrow to fill out a statement as it was a non stop traffic accident but where does my poor girlfriend stand, she's worried she is going to lose her no claims and end up in trouble, so please help, any info much appreciated, thanks Rob Last edited by bobjim; 02-10-2008 at 18:52. |

| Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! Surely they'd have to prove they were hit? With no witnesses, confession and with dubious damage I'm not sure how they would go about doing that successfully?

| Briskodian | Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! righty oh, just back in and apparently the adviser she spoke to on the local number 0845 told her incorrect details and he gave enough info and its a matter for the insurance companies, thats why we pay so much apparently.... was hoping for some police backing |

| Briskodian | Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! Personally I'd do as she is via the police, then I'd advise my insurance company that no incident actually took place. Then I'd just carry on with my life. No impact therefore nothing to answer to. SCUM! |

| Briskodian | Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! The exact same thing happened to me, I was told by my insurance company that it was a staged job and the other party have 3 years to put a claim in, this was 2 years ago and I am still waiting and in the meantime I have lost all my No Claims Bonus I am really angry about it. The young lads in the car said I had written their car off for £12,000 of damage but there was not a mark on it and I see it driving around my town. Its scandalous |

| Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! Sounds like they are not interested in the damage to their car, and may try and go for whiplash or simillar.

| Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! If id have been her i would have simply stood there and dialed the 3 9's, sure that would have had them scarpering pretty sharpish. That or just not even stop to talk to them in the first place, dont deserve the time of day. Scumbags!! |

| Go Gadget Octy! | Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! Bloody scammers. Tried it on with the Mrs of someone that works with Bro-in-law (police officer). She called him, and him and his mates came down. They soon changed their minds, and said it must have been the uneven road (actually smooth & newly laid) and made a quick exit. I'd have called the police myself, or said other half was in the force. Even stage the call, and see them run. I assume they were of eastern europe or immigrants? Sadly this is so common, and stereotypical these days. |

| Briskodian | Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! they were english and middleaged as the traffic was bumper to bumper and my girlfriend was close to the car in front the woman took offence to this and gave my good lady the fingers and was shaking her head, so my girlfriend duly replied with this, she stood on the brakes got out the car and came to her window and said "you are tailgating me" then it was only 30 seconds later he husband got out the car came over and said youve hit us, bit suss if you ask me, the driver cant tell she's been hit, left it with the insurance company but Hayley has now had two of her non claims years suspended incase they make a claim, she would have been better not saying **** about it, makes me so mad that we pay our insurance, mot road tax and people like this are out there, so my plan is to lie in wait on their route home as thats where they were going tonight and do exactly the same..... my car is registered at my mum and dads, so why not, the police wont do anything, and if they get funny i aint got no problem dialing the 3 9's and saying nothing till they get there......... |

| Briskodian | Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! Bloke claimed i hit him there is no damage and i did not hit him as a statement to the insurance co. Go to the police station get them to confirm no damage and take pics of the car. Do the same with today's newspaper too as that will be a day after the incident so should be good enough to at least support you. What a kn0b.

| Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! Definatley sounds like they are trying it on. All you can do, is make sure that your OH is open and honest about what heappened, including the bit about the passenger of the other car. Unfortunatley, its up to the insurance companies and who they believe. Other than that, just support her beacuase I'd imagine she's quite annoyed / upset at the whole situation.

| Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! sorry to hear that, i personally think they were trying to get her to pay cash out in the car park. Inform the police, no doubt the car is on dodgy plates. take a photo of your bumper from near side to off side (about 3-4 pics) like cheezemonkai said try and get todays paper in the shot (and keep it too). If she hasnt been to the police yet go to the police with as much info as possible and hopefully the retail park will have cctv watching over it and might even have the incident on tape which the police should be able to get a copy of. I would also consider contacting the retail park owner and let them know whats happened as they might be able to assist, might even be able to track down what store/s they went in and even if they bought anything (credit card?) of which might identify them and help identify them so you can tell the police who and where they live etc hope it all works out for you both. |

| Briskodian | Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! went to the police and were advised he has given enough info, name, reg and insurance co, and its a matter for the police, sounds like they dont want to get involved!!! Have got a newpaper from yesterday so will take photos tonight, it just gets me so wound up, poor lass is now stressing as she's has 2 or her 4 years NCB suspended, and Bell insurance are saying in 9 times out of 10 cases they will ask to go 50/50 on the claim, what else can i go to the police and say!! he's given just and i mean just enough info so the police dont need to take more action, |

| Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! you could always contact professional standards at your local police force and tell them you have reported an insurance fraud to them and the officer didnt take it seriously. also tell your insurer it is an insurance fraud scam and not to pay out and that the police have been contacted too. |

| Briskodian | Re: Girlfriend in car accident - advice please!!! I had all my No Claims suspended and it has been nearly 2 years now, last contact I had with my insurance company an investigater came to my house to take a statement and asked if I would be willing to be a witness if it went to court and I said yes, but I have heard nothing since and when I last rang up, they said they still have another year to make their claim, so I have another year to go with no No Claims Bonus![]() |
