Got made redundant today :-(

The papermaking machinery company that I work for has been up for sale for a few months.
Unfortunately, it appears that a buyer couldn't be found, and yesterday afternoon the administrators were called in.
This afternoon, 180 of the 320 staff, including myself, were made redundant, with immediate effect.
We will get paid up until today, but I have to claim any redundancy pay, notice pay and holiday pay etc from the government.
The lease company will be contacting me very shortly to arrange collection of my Octy vRS estate company car. I have 1 more week at most with it, as the insurance will be invalid after that.
Had an idea it was coming, but still feeling pretty shell-shocked at the moment.
Trying to stay positive, and hoping that some good will come out of the situation.
Going to get busy job-hunting tomorrow - and I have to arrange to "sign on" too which will be a new experience for me.
Might need and old banger to get around to interviews etc, so if anyone knows of anything half decent for sale around £200-£300 (and ideally located in the North West), drop me a PM.

Sad news!

Been there recently and its still shellshocking when it comes, even when the warning signs come months before. I was just lucky enough to walk straight into a training contract with an accountants.

Hope you do too (well, not into an accountants necessarily

sorry to hear about your job loss , what will make it even worse is that you will only get buttons off the government for your redundancy pay , last i heard it was about £240 per year worked , i hope i'm wrong though, heres the forms for claiming if you haven't already sorted it ,good luck with the job search http://www.dti.gov.uk/files/file11512.pdf

That really does suck dude.

But everything happens for a reason.

Your mission now is to get as many track days in as you can before they take the vRS off you. I know your not allowed to do track days in a company car, but what are they going to do - sack you?

Maybe im being childish here, because i dont know the circumstances, but the idea of care free costless driving of a quick car for a week sounds fun. Just remember you have to leave 1.6mm (thats right?) of tread on the tyres :p

Sucks that, I've hear rumors about my job lately and it's not a good way to get from day to day.
Luckily, my boss says my job is safe as he has "plans" but I've been made redundant several times in the past and I know how demoralising it is.
