If you are after a standalone system i have just got myself a Garmin Streetpilot c320 and it is excellent and it only cost me £150. Get down to your local Dixons and see if htey have any left. The only reason it is cheap is because they are brining out a new model. For £150 i really don't care if it is the newest model or not. They are usually between £250 and £300 most places.

The only thing it wont do is search by postcode, however when the new maps come out in May this feature will be supported so Garmin have said.

Re: GPS navigation system

I run Tom Tom Mobile 5 on a Nokia (symbian operating system) mobile phone with bluetooth GPS receiver and it works fine.
GPS receiver was ax. £50 on Ebay, £20 for a bigger memory card (mine is a 512MB RS DV MMC) and "trial version" of the software again on Ebay for £10

Re: GPS navigation system

Another nod for Tomtom Nav 5. I'm running the PalmOS one on my Treo with a Holux Bluetooth GPS thingie. 1GB SD Card was less than 20 quid on eBuyer, the GPS was a bit over 50 quid on eBay.

It does full postcode searching. Speed camera database too. It is loud and clear, I just leave my phone in the cubby hole and follow the voice, no need to look at the screen. With the backlight off and the realtime map display off the battery lasts for ages, but I got a car charger too, just in case. Its touchscreen and very easy to use, even for my parents.

Its nice enough. I didn't want anything all that fancy, I use mine less than once a month.

Re: GPS navigation system

Oh yeah, another good thing with Tomtom on your phone is you can pop it in your pocket, put the headset on and cycle around with satnav!

Perfect for those summer cycling jaunts in random cities (like the one I'm heading to in a few hours as it happens).

Re: GPS navigation system

Have a TomTom Go 700 myself having had an original Classic Tom Tom Go and it is excellent, plus can use it as a Bluetooth Car Kit and also have the Traffic System installed which is very good. They can be picked up for around the £300 mark as well now.
