| So how good does handing your notice in feel? GGRREEAATT!!! I've had to commute 55 miles a day to work wasting a good 3-4 hours a day and when i get there its so frustrating as i feel they really dont know what they are doing, I'm not doing what i should be doing and getting bored, manager are not making good engineering decisions and so i endup getting stressed. I didnt like how i ended up, i had no life, i ended up being quite run down, and no time or energy to enjoy things, hobbies etc. I'd decided about a year and a half ago to move on and so mentally i couldnt care less, i'd already left! I hadnt had that many interviews but felt my defense background was putting people off in civvy street, but the last months had seem more relevant stuff appear and was starting to feel a bit better about interviews, at times feeling i need to direct them a bit as they werent asking the right things. Then a post appeared local to my parents in a company that does some interesting stuff that seemed to have more of an engineering emphasis. Not to mention staying back at home briefly while i sort out selling my flat. So admittidely it was the first offer i had, but still I feel its a chance to move on up and with more money! Strange thing is most people there anrt happy and i've been talking to a few people about my job hunting experiences as i think they realised i needed to do something. But actually handing my notice was rather bizarre as it seemed most people wanted to stand there at watch me! egging me on to do it that morning. Anyway i just wanted say this as its like a huge weight has lifted, and i'm looking forward to things now and a new job. Its nice to actually feel wanted in a job! how long will that last......

| Re: Handing your notice in! Great! I hope it works out well for you - sometimes the notice period is exciting, and then the new job turns out to be, well, just a job, a bit like the last one. But they say a change is as good as a rest, so go for it! |

| Re: Handing your notice in! Great! I love handing in notices... "Dear Sir, Madam, I resign." Or am I the only one who keeps it short and to the point? |

| Re: Handing your notice in! Great! I've done it once, it is great, one of the best feelings in the world. My boss sat me down after I handed my notice in and was fishing around to see if there was any way I would stay. |

| Re: Handing your notice in! Great! Handing in notice is great; as it happens my notice period ends this Friday. After that I start contracting... in my old job at my old desk except for loads more money, going home at 17:00, and not having to pretend I like my boss/play office politics/buy in to the strategic direction. In fact I won't have to use phrases like 'buy in to the strategic direction' anymore either ![]() |

| Re: Handing your notice in! Great! Thanks guys! All i was waiting for was the second offer to arrive in the post so for a few days, it was like, not today then! I could hand it in early but you just never know, they could turn around and decline it then you are in deep... Strange thing, my manager said well done, and shook my hand! Yeah i'm sure all companies are similair so give it a few months and it will be back to normal. We currently have contractors here and have spoken to them about going that route but i'm not sure i could hanndle the level of insecurity and continously moving around to different companies. I like to think i'm a mechanical engineer and have only worked in the defense sector, though this company does do more offensive stuff. Used to work in Crawley for a big defence firm..... Building up to the point i so wanted to tell them EXACTLY what i thought, but you realise that it isnt the best thing to do and could potentially ruin any chances of going back( you never know) and even a reference for your new job.
