best get all the family kids round, so they can all have it.

and yes kids can have it more than once, my son had it 3 times.

Calomine lotion is the one we used.

Hope they get better soon.

Smear with lard or dripping (lard is better) then put a scooped-out grapefruit half on their head.

Could try Vasogen from the baby shelf. It's a nappy rash cream, mainly comprising calomine but also has zinc to aid speedy skin healing. Pink and white tube (toothpaste size), about £2. It's thicker than calomine and very soothing - assuming you've not got something already from the doc, since shouldn't mix things.

Antihistamine tablets / cream is good for itching of course, but would have to ask your doc for some to ensure it's suitable for use for kiddies re chickenpox.

TLC is the only other thing I can think of really, well aside from a wet flannel draped over the hot itchy parts and replace it as it dries and loses its effect.

Hi Jason

Hoping the little one is on the road to recovery?

I forgot to mention that it's a good idea to cut and smooth her fingernails so that scratching cannot make things worse, especially as I think it gets more itchy as it's getting better. Putting hands in cotton socks at night is a good idea also, as can scratch even whilst sleeping.

Cotton sheets, rather than flannelette or stretch Terry sheets and miniumum clothing (obviously according to room temperature) to keep excess heat down.

Also, you mentioned Googling of bi-carb bath. I took that to mean you were trying it. If you're not, that is also a good way to stop itching and has very good disinfectant properties. I don' know what measurements you have, but I'd go for no more than say a level teaspoon in a baby bath of about 2 gallons of water. In a big bath, about 1/3rd full of water, maybe one rounded (not flat, not heaped) desertspoonful.

'orrible for 'em isn't it?

Mo

I had a few lectures on Chicken Pox as a child when a relative had cancer. One thing that stood out is that it is no longer infectious once the spots start to appear.

thank you very much for the input.she seems to be getting better today, more of her old self, still covered from head to toe ,but less itchy it seems, and the redness of the spots is lessening.a couple more days and she'll be fighting fit,and we can get a full nights sleep again
