Re: How long does Ibuprofen take to kick in??

Depends how much is in your stomach, but all in all about 30 mins should see some effects.
What type of pain do you have? (some painkillers only work on certain types of pain. Ibuprofen numbs nerve ends)
Make sure you do not move around too much, that reduces the effect.
AND watch if you 'top up' soon, do not take too many.

Good luck....

Most painkillers are a bit rubbish.

Did you change from fourth into first and get windscreen headache?

Re: How long does Ibuprofen take to kick in??

I've strained the tendons in both my arms at the elbows.

They've been like that for a week now and gradually getting better.

But took a delivery of a shed load of light fittings earlier and its made them worse, the pain's quite intense now

Seems to have died down a bit so I am comfortable.

Such a set back with what I do in my spare time that its really starting to annoy me now.

*apparently* Asprin and Paracetemol can be taken together and are the most effective way of relieving pain without a prescription

THIS IS NOT ADVICE. DONT MIX DRUGS UNLESS A DOCTOR TELLS YOUR ITS OK!

Are they tablets? If so next time take ones that will dissolve in water if you can, they act much faster. The old doc told me that for my mirgrans.

Re: How long does Ibuprofen take to kick in??

dude i done the same to my right elbow tendon in february im still in constant pain but it is getting better. you need to apply r.i.c.e...Rest: Resting is important immediately after injury for two reasons. First, rest is vital to protect the injured muscle, tendon, ligament or other tissue from further injury. Second, your body needs to rest so it has the energy it needs to heal itself most effective.
Ice: Use ice bags, cold packs or even a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a thin towel to provide cold to the injured area. Cold can provide short-term pain relief. It also limits swelling by reducing blood flow to the injured area. Keep in mind, though, that you should never leave ice on an injury for more than 15-20 minutes at a time. Longer exposure can damage your skin. The best rule is to apply cold compresses for 15 minutes and then leave them off for at least 20 minutes. (Read The Proper Use of ICE).
Compression: Compression limits swelling, which slows down healing. Some people notice pain relief from compression as well. An easy way to compress the area of the injury is to wrap an ACE bandage over it. If you feel throbbing, or if the wrap just feels too tight, remove the bandage and re-wrap the area so the bandage is a little looser.
Elevation: Elevating an injury reduces swelling. It's most effective when the injured area is raised above the level of the heart. For example, if you injure an ankle, try lying on your bed with your foot propped on one or two pillows.

the first 2 being wot you need to do mainly for an elbow. & get some glucosamine tablets to strengthen up yout tenons. hope this helps.

Re: How long does Ibuprofen take to kick in??

Can't get "hugs" around here over the counter yet, but I'm working on it I'll send you some as soon as I can

Meanwhile, your hard day at work cannot possibly have done you any good Still, as said, some tablets are more effective specifically for controlling pain - I can thoroughly recommend the Anti-Mo tablet Works a treat for most people

Love

Re: How long does Ibuprofen take to kick in??

what type of training you do? to help with tenons that attach to elbow you need to avoid elbow movement such as weight lifting using for biceps but you need to strengthen up you forearms such as wrist curls & wrist raises. but rest & ice is the main thing at first

Weight training 5 times a week, Thai boxing 2-3 times a week.

Did you get any physio help on your elbow?

I am debating what to do atm, as you've probably guessed my training is pretty much my life lol

I had a Thai Boxing competition in Holland this June, looks like I can kiss that goodbye

Walkie...
Co-Drydamol.
I swear I see Bob Marley floating past on the back of a giant swan after one of them. It doesn't half get rid of pain though.
Course, I seem to remember they're prescription only, so that could be a problem for you....damn!

Co-dydramol is my prescribed med also. It contains Dihydrocodeine Tartrate 10mg and Paracetamol 500mg. Tablets to be used as directed by physician.

That was what I was thinking of when I mentioned tablets effective for controlling pain. They are not an anti-inflammatory though, which I believe Ibuprofen is. Also, as Goochie says about not mixing meds, whether these can be taken at the same time or not, I don't know.

If they can be taken at the same time, a similar over the counter product is Co-Codamol.

Walkie, I don't reckon that either Co-Dydramol or Co-Codamol is a cure, only a disguise to mask the pain. I hope your underlying injury gets better soon.

Best regards
Mo
