How much does a Tattoo hurt

I didn't even see the final design for mine until just before he started drawing it onto my skin - and it changed a little in translation even then..

But getting a ta moko is different to picking a design.

I know I don't have the cultural background of a Maori but it has significance and meaning for me all the same.

Cant hurt as much as a pierced nip, so thats good to hear. That flipping hurt!

Take the design to a studio and just ask their opinion on it and they will tell you the minimum size that it needs to be and then it will help you where you can place it

Don't forget it's for life!! It seems a daft and obvious thing to say, but make sure you're happy with what you are doing and have thought about any implications it might have to your job etc.
And make sure you're 100% sure about the design!

It's a bit like getting married isn't it?

Yep, make usre it's definately what you want.

I made a bad descision 15 years ago with one of mine. Hence why i'm getting it covered up.

This is my tattoo (Crap picture that doesen't do it justice!)

It does hurt quite alot, especially the outlines and deep black areas (Like the beard), but as a glutton for punishment I am going to have a big Pink Floyd tat done on my left arm soon!!

This was hand drawn by my tattoo artist

And just booked my first session for my cover up too.

Have to say, been a few years since my last tattoo, and i forgot how stingy the outline was.
Soon passes though.

I've considered one but with me being the way I am my arms are like twigs , it would have to be on my back, If I had a child I would love to have his/her name on my back.

I got two... and one was done recently, about 2 months ago...

I wouldn't say they hurt (and im no hardman!) more of a numb deadarm kinda feeling, but to be honest after the first 2 or 3 mins, you dont really notice it..

Saying that, mine are on my arm and my back... I believe the bonier the bit your having done, the more painful...

One thing I will recommend tho, try and go see some of his work for real to show their any good. Photos dont prove sh*t, It could of been done by anyone. Last thing you want is a sh*t tattoo, and just because they have a shop, doesn't mean their any good!!

i love both of mine and saving for a third, the thing with both of mine is no one gets too see them unless i want to show them, i took a long time deciding on the 2nd one i knew wat i wanted but i wanted to make sure, i combined a few desgins and used a tattoist that a few people i knew had used and was impressed with the jobs that he'd done.

oh and before i forget, to make it more challenging i have a phobia of needles, to the extent that i rather go without injections than suffer being within 20 metres of it. thus why my doctor has developed some ingenious ways of getting blood out of me and give me in jections without me realising till its too late, bar stewerd

Very true. I've seen pictures of tattoos with almost photographic quality but as you say you need a special kind of artist to get that right.

I have 2 tattoos on my arms.The first took about 1 and half hours(1 colour) and the second took 4 hours (multi coloured).I experienced no pain at all.It depends on your pain levels really but i would say that it definately doesn,t hurt.The healing process after is quite quick too.The guy who did mine said you have to wash it and apply Savlon cream and redress 3 times a day for about a week or so to prevent infection.6 years on and they still look very clear and new.

IMO Savlon is terrible for healing.

I always use Bepanthen, and i get hardly any scabbing at all.

I got my last one done 2 weeks ago, and the skin is now fully healed.
