| Re: How much "Keep" do you pay My son gives us £100 per month. He recently got a new job with better money and volunteered the rise from £60 - £100. Reckon it helps teach the value of money. I know a few parent who put this allowance aside in a separate bank account (with out the child knowing) and intend to had it back as a "leg up" when junior moves out. Hmmmm....... may be I should drop this hint as an incentive for him to find his own place ![]() |

| Re: How much "Keep" do you pay I pay £100 a month which I think is quite good, if I'm staying at SWMBO's or on old holiday I sometimes have to pay £50 for the month.

| Re: How much "Keep" do you pay If its only £25 a wek, can some of us come and live with you, as its cheaper than living with "ER" indoors????? On a serious note, none of us should ever have kids to make money from them, and if your happy with their contribution then so be it. Knowing its Lorna, increase it to £200 a week.....LOL |

| Re: How much "Keep" do you pay I don't think that it's about making money from kids , and not wanting to speak for Octygone , but at £25 a week you'd be lucky if that covered the food and electricity bills , let alone started paying back the tens of thousands of pounds that have been spent on them so far. If it was my (entirely hypothetical) kids I'd be more inclined to let them pay a smaller amount if I knew most of their wages were being saved towards paying for their independence , compared to them spending it on going to the pub as is the natural tendency at that age.

| Re: How much "Keep" do you pay £400 per month. when I left uni is was £340, so for what I'm on now and for what i get in return, i think that's pretty good. I suppose it's moved to more of a "house share" situation than "living with parents", at least in practice. Cheaper than some of the alternatives like cramped apartments in seedier districts of Manchester....... As a percentage, my "board and lodging" accounts for 25% of take home pay. But then, I am older and probably earn a bit more than Lorna and Kevin - so it's "horses for courses". |

| Re: How much "Keep" do you pay I used to pay £30 a week all those years ago... didn't mind paying it either as i was working and understood that it was costing my parents to keep me and i guess i was old enough to look after myself etc... My partner had it rough... chucked out of house at 15 and had to live on own from age of 16 while going to college/uni! |

| Re: How much "Keep" do you pay As its Lorna, I pay £300 a month, the least of all my friends, and some pay as much as £500. £400 would seem fair imho. ![]() I think £105 is not far off the mark. Up to about £40 a week is reasonable in my eyes. ![]()

| Re: How much "Keep" do you pay I pay £150, but I have to do the gardening, clean the cars and fix their computer when Dad buggers it up. Not too bad really, the idea of me paying so little was to save towards a deposit - ended up with a fabia instead. |

| Re: How much "Keep" do you pay It was mentioned above Rob, I think it's about teaching them the value of money as well as supporting your costs to house them. I think it should be proportionate to their earnings, not taking all of their money but equally they need to know how it feels to have to support themselves and the harsh reality of putting a roof over your head. Both of them are fortunate enough to drive pretty new cars, probably much newer then many of their similar aged friends so that would lead you to believe that things weren't overly tight for them. If you think they can afford a small increase without putting them into difficulty then I see no reason why not and if it means they have to do another couple of hours over time then welcome to the real world guys.

| Re: How much "Keep" do you pay My parents have eased off, and now the vRS has gone, they can see I'm making positive efforts to clear debts and save up for my own independance, then I can't see them getting too upset. Also the reality is, aside from the electric stuff in the bedroom, I eat most meals at friends houses etc, keep out from under their feet at weekends, and generally try to do as they please. On top of that, I seem to be a taxi service for them, coach my little brother with revision etc, do most of the DIY, cutting the lawn etc... As long as the kids aren't treating the place like a hotel, mucking in where they can, and not generally taking the ****... ![]()

| Re: How much "Keep" do you pay I'm living with my Dad (at 22) and he charges nothing. Him and Mum decided that they were gonna charge me rent, then give it back to me, but Dad didn't seem to want to bother when Mum died. I do however help with the shopping, giving him lifts etc, help with any cars he's fiddling about with ![]() |
