How old were you when you started having sprogs?

I was in Monsoon today obviously checking out clothes for myself, when I couldn't help but notice the thoroughly gorgeous kids stuff they had. This is not a thread about how cute the clothes were but about how it made me feel. It surprised me to say the least but the time has come to admit to myself that I want kids and very soon!

I don't mind admitting that the thought of childbirth just fills me with complete fear and dread. I'm not talking about what most females must naturally feel, I mean it has actually stopped me from getting on with this child rearing mallarky. I have also thought about adoption from either this country or from further afield, although I recentely read an article about how difficult it is to adopt from less fortunet countries, let alone the ten grand that's needed to go with it. I don't want to be an old parent so I really need to get on with it

How old were you when you had your first child and do you think you were the right age at the time?

Re: How old were you when you started having sprogs?

I was 32.

I never really was bothered about kids in my early and mid twentys, just like a lot of people these days. When i did decide i actually wanted to have kids i was thinking around the 30-32 area would be a good place to start.

Wouldn't be without either of them now though

I can completely sympathise with your thoughts, not about childbirth itself, obviously, but perhaps not feeling quite 'ready' to take on the responsibility of having children. I'm 32 next month!

Re: How old were you when you started having sprogs?

I have two kids and I'm the ripe ol' age of 36... My first came along just before my 30th (My wifes' decision)

The thing is, nowadays there is much less stigma attached to "you should have kids now" as people are much more focussed on setting up their homes and getting in a few hols before the commitment of kids, so people are staring famlies later (it is your choice after all)

At the time I didn't feel 100% about starting a family, but a lot of people say the same thing. After becoming a dad I did wonder why I had waited so long (I'm a soppy old soul).

If it feels right, go for it.... It changes your life and priorities

We both wanted Evie alot and had been trying for a while, and despite the lack of sleep we dont regret it for a minute. I got my first smile from her this morning and it put me in a good mood for the whole day.

Its great isn't it?

Gives you a good reason to go to work (!) and if you've had a bad day you are greeted by unconditional love that fixes everything (aaah )

Mine are still only 3 and 6, but the good times roll.

Not looking forward to when they hit their teens though!

Re: How old were you when you started having sprogs?

I was 21, and the wife is 22. We have lived together for 3 years, and been together for about 4.

We knew each other even before that though.

We had jessica in february, she was not planned, but is the best thing that has happened to us.

It doesn't ruin your life, like i got told of I have become the proud father I am, a Proud Octy L & K owner, and am training as a manager, so in about 12/18 months will be on about 3 times as much pay.

Maybe my post came over a bit vague. What I'm saying is I do feel ready and it's something that's crept up on me I suppose. It really is something to see guys with their kids, I know it shouldn't be any different to see a bloke rather than a woman but it just is. I saw some bloke walking out of Next with his baby in one of those front holder things, I think my heart melted there and then

I believe some 'gentlemen' have used this method to attract the ladies....

It's not what you were asking, but adopting is well worth doing ( I speak from personal experience), but perhaps address why you're so fearfull of childbirth first

I'm 32 and the missus 35. It hits you like a freight train, but somehow it is all worthwhile. Though the memory of his first nappy will haunt me forever

One bottle of wine too many with the other half when I was 22 (she was 20) and hay presto 9 months later at the tender ages of 23 and 21 we were parents to a little girl.........

Just what we needed in retrospect, made us get our arses into gear and sort our lives out

Re: How old were you when you started having sprogs?

Like others have said on here already, it is not easy being a parent and when you have kids it does mean your life changes.

We used to be out every weekend pubbing and clubbing but somehow i just don't miss it at all these days, not one little bit.

I would sooner spend ten minutes with my family than any amount of time fighting my way to the bar in a pub/club on an evening, shouting to be heard, paying stupid money for drinks etc

Don't get me wrong i like a drink and all but nowadays in my life my kids are everything to me. Everything i do is to try and make them and out family in general have a better life.

You can have the worst day ever but when you get home and your kids run up to you and give you a hug and say they have missed you, everything is ok again and you can't put a price on that sort of feeling.

Re: How old were you when you started having sprogs?

Me and Em were 27 (Jess was born 3 days before my 28th ) when we had our first. Been a wonderful experience and can't imagine life without her

Next opened a store a 10 minute walk from my house at Christmas and Jess is now the best dressed baby in town! I'm wondering about approaching them and seeing if they need a walking advert for their stores

Re: How old were you when you started having sprogs?

I was 24 and Linda 28 when we had our first. I have posted many times about my opinions on parent age - I'm firmly in the young parent camp (I'm not talking about teenage mums btw). Children are hard work as well as fun. My sister had her first 3 years ago at 42 ish, and is already complaining how tired she gets looking after a 3 year old. Get on with it!

Re: How old were you when you started having sprogs?

I'm 30 and my missis had 2 little girls 4 weeks ago today.
(the reason why I bought a estate VRS)

Having twins is hard work and I never wanted kids didn't intrest me one little bit and I was in the process of wanting to emigrate when we found out she was pregnant. At 30 I feel too young to be a dad to be honest

But they are both asleep beside me at this very mo kicking out little baby snores some how all my dreams and goals have gone out the window and I don't mind one little bit.
