| Indian food This is a serious post for a change as I am genuinely interested in the following. Why does Indian food taste; a) much better in a restaurant than a takeaway? b) far better than any packaged or frozen indian food you can buy? There must be a reason. Anyone?

| Re: Indian food Think it's because the herbs and spices are freshly mixed. You get a much better flavour. And they're hopefully not making up in huge batches at the start of the night, a la takeaway! Steve

| Briskodian | Re: Indian food Ambience? Lovely smell when you walk into the restaurant (so juices going straight away). Plus nice decor/lighting so in relaxed mode already (rather than having to rush home before it gets cold, reheat etc.) You're expecting an "eating experience", not just food cos you're hungry. You might spend a bit more on accessories - e.g. poppadoms or paratha. Probs have a choice of chutney set before you (rather than one mini polystyrene cup). Food will be set before you, literally like a feast to the eyes, arriving all at once. Again, ambience, relaxation and hassle free is brain endorphins(?) rather than just stomach stuff. That said, if food was nice eaten in a restaurant, I'd expect the takeaway to be as good ![]() Me hungry now too. Darn Pavlov's dogs... Mo |

| Re: Indian food Indian food tastes even better if you eat it when it India... I would never have Indian food in this country, but when I spent a week in Ahmedbad which is well off the tourist trail I had no choice. It is much better than the stuff you get in this county!

| Re: Indian food I don't think there's much in it between restaurant and takeaway, except that the restaurant food is cooked and served, not cooked, driven about the country for 10 or 15 minutes, then served onto cold plates. Frozen and cook-chilled are industrial vat processes, not more or less cook portions to order like restaurants and decent takeaways do. |

| Re: Indian food We get takeaway from the same place we eat in (it's a restaurant with takeaway option) - No difference between the two ever. Rarely been to a takeaway "only", but never really had a bad meal from one. Fair enough with supermarkets though. ![]()

because your takeaway chef isnt as good as the chef in the restaurant its about speed as well, the takeaway are working on a fast food princaple, its quick, rushed even. I would have thought the indian has a little more time to prepare. | |

| Re: Indian food I often found that reheated-the-next-day curries taste even better than when they were fresh the night before. I always put that down to sauces having more time to soak and develop their maximum flavour. Darn, I fancy an Indian tonight now ![]()
