Interview coming up; answering those silly questions?

I have an interview on Wednesday for a job that sounds really rather interesting. It's an AV consultant position for a very, very major construction/engineering/consultancy company. However, the recruiter says they're pretty much guaranteed to ask me "Why do you want to be an AV consultant?"

I have no idea how to answer this question. Essentially it's the same job I do now, only with a poncier job title and better prospects. And at (I am pretty certain) a more professional company.

Am I likely to get in trouble for saying "I'm already an AV consultant, you enormous klutz"?

Don't mention the sporks!

Seriously though , nothing wrong with saying that your current job is along similar lines but you think that the job you are applying for will give you more responsibilty/challenges/money , etc

Good point on the sporks - I usually manage a fair bit of restraint in interviews so that should be ok. I just hope my nose flashing doesn't put them off too much.

I suppose, actually, that that would be quite a good response. When the recruiter sent the person spec and job description through it was almost as if I'd written it myself, so hopefully I have a decent chance.

I recruited for a number of major engineering consultancies so if you want to PM me who it is I may be able to assist....

As Dr Z says, say you already work in this field, but are looking for new challenges.

Yep, you've outgrown your current position.

So my first idea (minus the "klutz" bit) wasn't a dreadful answer? Phew.

I am now well into pre-interview stress.

I was once in the embarrassing situation of asking what exactly it was that the recruitment CV said (the interviewer's question making no sense). I learned subsequently to ensure that I had a copy, or even insisted on any edits, before I found myself sitting in the hot seat having to answer questions about it.

Best
Mo

Nah - Audio Visual.

It went jolly well - seemed like nice people and the general company "culture" and package are fantastic.

I got a call from the recruiter about 20 minutes after I left saying they wanted me back for a second interview, so I think I must have made a decent impression! Ta to everyone for the advice.
