| Re: I've got to lose weight....................... Eat 5 or 6 small meals a day rather than 2 0r 3 big ones. Our bodies will store fat if we eat big meals only 2 or 3 times a day because it gets used to having to wait a long time for the next feed. If we eat small portions but every 2 - 3 hours then ours bodies get used to regular feeds, it learns to know when the next feed is coming and releases the fat it's been storing. This in conjunction with drinking 8 glasses of water a day will do the job and you don't have to eat boring diet foods (within reason). The body stores lots of water, more than it needs because it doesn't know when it is going to get its next drink. You just have to let it know by giving it a glass every 1 - 2 hours that it doesn't need to store it any more. The water will help flush out all the toxins and the released fat and you will release the stored water. Give it a try for 2 - 3 weeks and you'll see a drop in weight! But remember that its 5 or 6 SMALL meals not normal sized ones, a small meal being a small jacket potato and filling or a sandwich or half a packet of instant rice with chicken, or 2 or 3 pieces of fruit etc.

| Re: I've got to lose weight....................... There is, in my opinion, a simple way to weight loss . . . calculate your calorie intake, then using the average male calorie consumption requirements (3000 per day? I can't remember the figure) and make sure that your intake doesn't exceed that. Of course, to increase weight loss or to allow you to consume more calories, you can unbalance the equation with exercise (there are calorific values for different types on the web for this too). That's pretty much the ruling I use and it seems to work. ![]()

| Briskodian | Re: I've got to lose weight....................... mm, I have been on a diet as I put on a bit of weight on holiday I just eat VERY small amounts and drink pints of water and tea throughout the day. I know its not the "right" way to go about it but I am sooo stressed at the moment, my appetite has gone For example, today I have had 3 Rich Tea biscuits, 3 cups of tea, and a slice of toast ![]() |

| Re: I've got to lose weight....................... My biggest problem was lunchtime. The temptation to get a huge vienna stuffed with cheese, mayo etc. from the sandwich shop was usually too strong and I found myself eating them 3 times a week . . . and they're probably scarily loaded up with calories! I now generally have an entire bag of salad at lunchtime, with some mozerella (or feta) sliced on top, a dab of pesto and some low fat dressing. ![]()

| Re: I've got to lose weight....................... had two people that I recommended a surgeon in Egypt to - they had gastric surgery - was amazing to see the results tbh - both were really huge before. They had tried all sorts of diets without any success. One had both diabetes plus hypertension before (aged 30!) which went away totally. I know it's radical but it was a lot safer than them dying in their 40's... btw - I don't know this surgeon personally but I've spoken to him and seen his work.... Just another option if all else fails of course.....

| Re: I've got to lose weight....................... Start by cutting down carbohydrates - they are what the body turns into fat and stores. If you have sandwiches for lunch, have something with protein and some salad instead. Cut down drastically on potatoes, rice, bread etc. If you drink a lot of beer, cut it out and drink wine instead (preferably don't drink at all, but if you must ... ). Try not drinking on weekdays - works for me - but also be wary of the temptation to go mad at weekends.Exercise - remember that? If you are a really sedentary person, try just going for a walk every morning, or every evening when you get home from work (and not to the pub, either). If you already take some exercise, increase it - cycling, swimming, something non impact, but aerobic. |

![]() As he says, I joined Weigh****chers in September last year, and have slowly and steadily dropped 50lbs (we won't talk about the 7 I have put on through not concentrating over the last month )... I'm back on it now, and basically there is a list of foods on the core plan, and you can eat as much as you like from this list of foods until you are comfortably full, three times a day. You don't have to go to a meeting either, you can join up online and use E-source its a great planning device and has loads of recipes. The best thing is I can still have steak and chips, chicken kebab and nando's pretty much guilt free. Its easier than you would expect, you just have to get over the hurdle of "I can't do without...." Bread has been the hardest thing for me to give up, and I still dont succeed too well with that, and chocolate was the second hardest... but if I can do it... anyone can ![]() I'll always be about if you want a chat about it... and if not, then I can put you in touch with a mate up in scotland who is now about a third of the man he used to be in a year.... Most of all, good luck... I'm sure with a bit of determination, you will succeed!

| Re: I've got to lose weight....................... I've been there and done that, since I was diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure. Everyone has their own route, but the simple answer is eat less, exercise more. I now work near a lake that I walk around every lunchtime that I can -it's a mile and a half. If you don't liek walking, get an MP3 player and put talking books on it. It's a great stress reliever at lunchtime. If you burn 2000 calories a day and eat 3000, you'll gain weight. Burn 2000 and eat 1500, and you'll lose weight. I make sure I always eat breakfast -cereal, and especially porridge, will get you through the morning without any hungry bits, but I eat fruit if I get hungry Keep the lunches under control -this was my main problem, as I Gregg's sausage rolls were my weakness! Either take sarnies, or avoid shops where you'll be tempted. Whatever you used to have for dinner, have the same, but 2/3rds the portion. Eat lots of veg. Cut your drinking my half, watch your salt intake as your BP's high, and try and keep the coffee intake down. That should do it to start with -it worked for me as I'm now 3 stones down, and fighting my doctor over whether I need BP medication or not. Phil |

| Briskodian | Re: I've got to lose weight....................... It is best to be referred to a properly qualified dietician. I gather people can call themselves "nutritionists" after very little training. Perhaps more important if asking for a diet with health implications. Apparently, one's taste buds change (more likely due to brain expectancy since it knows what's good for the body) so that spinnach and other rabbit food (LOL) actually becomes preferable in thought to cream doughnuts. Perish the thought. I take it to mean that you eat only one doughnut rather than all four in the packet at one sitting .Another vote for porridge for brekkie by the way, but it can have a baked-bean effect if too much too regularly. I can't comment on exercise, since it needs strength and energy to avoid injury, though peeps on here are very knowledgeable about that ![]() Mo |

| Re: I've got to lose weight....................... I lost 5 stone in 7 months, by taking a walk half-hour every lunchtime, and being very strict on portion sizes. I found things like selection boxes of cereal and ready-meals helped on this front (although there are downsides in terms of the food quality) so make sure you eat plenty of veggies and lower-sugar fruits. It helped a lot that I was living on my own at the time, so could exercise a 'not in the house' policy in terms of snacks - a raw carrot looks relatively appealing when there's nothing better on offer! Having said all this, I did allow myself a massive blow-out on a Friday night, which I think helped me maintain my sanity, and didn't dent my weight loss to any great degree. Sadly though, moving in with SWMBO has made it harder to do the 'not in the house' thing, and a few too many tasty home-cooked meals has meant I've put back much of what I lost. Then again, the imminent arrival of Ap0gee Jr will no doubt entail lots of interrupted sleep and (later on, at least) running round, so I'm looking at it as an extended period of carbo-loading! ![]()
