Re: I've just been driving

I remember my very first proper driving lesson, I was totally addicted and begged my sister to take me back out immediately afterwards Of course I had a long way to go until I was as good as I thought I was

Well done you!

I know you'll take to it well, I wasn't even scared when you drove mine, honest.

Re: I've just been driving

mind me asking what he charges, My daughter will be driving in about 1 1/2 years and was wondering how much the going rate is now.

Used to be £9.00 with BSM when I started and like you a friend of the family who worked for BSM used to teach me. I used to get 2 hours driving for the price of 1.

Have fun driving Lorna, make the most of it before the fun is taken away by central government.

£22 hr, when I learnt to drive I remember paying £5 an hour, that shows my age now.

I paid sweet f.a. Thanks Dad.

Its good fun learning. The ultimate thing to do is to be able to practise on your own family car and put the hours in behind the wheel going anywhere - taking the family shopping / out on trips / etc.

oh-forgot to add-didnt speed once!!! think the fastest i went was about 20mph-cos i wanted to go a bit faster than 10 so i kinda pushed the accelerator down a bit!! it wasa clear road with no obstructions and the instructor had his feet on the dual controls so it was fine-he didnt say to slow down!!

I always did exactly what speed it said on the signs. I did go over a couple of times and my instructor would always say, "What's the speed limit on this road?". I knew then that i was speeding, though he did get me to speed on the motorway to overtake a lorry and car as i was in the 3rd lane on my pass plus lesson.

Mine used to keep pressing the brake pedal (stop me from speeding).

If I went over the speed limit to many times he used to make me pull over and swap places with him for 15 minutes, used to give me the right hump, I was paying for lessons and all I was doing was watching him drive. Good way of punishing someone and made me learn not to speed + I passed first time so he was doing something right.

Re: I've just been driving

Good going Lorna

My instructor used to say "Right, now gently on the gas," to which I'd say that I couldn't go any more gently or I'd stall. He meant "more gas, gently" It does help IMO if you have the same instructor for the first few lessons.

Best
Mo

Re: I've just been driving

I think it's pretty important to learn in a car you are comfortable with, I don't mean performance or anything, but physically fitting inside. I found the Starlet I initially learnt in was too cramped and was so uncomfortable it was distracting - enter the mk2 Astra. Never driven a corsa, but you could do without any annoying distractions if you can!
Do you have another car in the family apart from the Superb? Maybe you could take your test and do your lessons in one of the family's cars. What I did and I found it helped a great deal.
