Job Security

Well, it been all over the news that HBOS has been taken over by Lloyds TSB.

As an employee of HBOS, working in the IT side of things, I have to say the mood within the company is rock bottom. Morale is through the floor, everyone does not know whats happening and with the proposed 40,000 job cuts being mentioned, everyone feels totally motivated. *NOT*

As Lloyds seem to love to outsource everthing, I guess its only a matter of time before I get my P45...

Anyone know of any good IT jobs for a Windows 2003/2008/Veritas Clustering expert? Better ask now b4 the rest of HBOS follow

Its sickening.

Re: Job Security

Sorry but there is no such thing as job security - it disappeared in the early 70's.

When a takeover happens, it doesn't matter how good you are, as the accountants are in charge. If you're on the wrong column in the spreadsheet, it's goodbye I'm afraid. That's the way things work now.

Re: Job Security

There may be some IT vacancies coming up when we (the end users) go Postal and wipe out the blithering idiots that run our IT. The recent server migration has tried everyone's patience...

not always,

if there are two companies coming together they could be looking to merge staff, and get rid of the low performers rather than keeping them and not getting the best performance out of them,

I'd really like to believe that's true, and in this case maybe it is. However, having been through a takeover in the last few years it was noticeable that where there was a choice of an excellent but highly paid person or a mediocre but cheaper person the higher paid person got the brown envelope every time.

Re: Job Security

Reorganisations like this are sometimes used for clearing the deadwood and building for the future. I have been on the end of a redundancy previously as the company restructured internally getting rid of some right herberts that would have taken months to performance manage and I expect the same to happen again before long as we merge two departments and rebrand. The end result last time was I got a better job for more money and I am hoping that this time I can pull off the same.

If your not part of the solution.....

Re: Job Security

Once things have stabilised the competition commission will be demanding they split again.

I'd have thought merging the IT systems would be a task and a half and require all the current staff for quite a while yet.

I remember Woowlich and Barclays, and that took years to iron out

They still running x486 d66 servers?

Barclays have to be the tightest bank for replacing stuff. PC's are good for 10-15 years dont you know. and the faded 'fag stain look' is in right now. How about one of our mortgages?

Hi Primey,

None of this is good, what is happening here as it is not only the HBOS that is bad. America is to be blamed this time for having a credit crunch, and not keeping the house in order. I now know that the FED. in America is now to be taking money to help things, but all the damage is now done I think. The horse is now gone, and the stable is locked, I think.
It is very bad that the whole world is suddenly made suffering, and the jobs are going by this thing.
Maybe America should be giving compensation to others, but I am thinking that that owe others so much, with record of National debt.

It is hard for you, but try to be a bit happy, as things will be changing soon always. The very best of luck, and good fortune to you!

To be fair the less they spend on IT the less they are spending on your money.

Only change it when needed and don't leave OS2 warp for a newer system until you have to

Re: Job Security

Post your CV on agency sites like Reed, monster, jobserve and jobsite

If you've got the qualifications you're quite safe but from what i have heard even highly qualified people are now going for low end support jobs, taking pay cuts in order to stay employed.

It's a tough market
