Joined a leisure club.......

..... with the intent of using the gym HOWEVER

in the month and a half ive been a member.. i seem to be frequenting the other available facilities considerably more than the gym, namely the spa pool and steam room

somethign ive always wondered... what are the actual benifits of steam-rooms and saunas.. they always have signs outside saying the do's and donts.. but never actually say what they do and why they are apparently good for you??

thanks in advance: Fat Knacker AKA gym dodger

The benefits vary from person to person...
Generally though, they're good for the skin (opens the pores, makes you sweat the dirt out), you'll also sweat toxins out and they can also really loosen the phlegm in your respiratory system. It'll also increase metabolism, and if you've just done some exercise ( ) it'll help "warm down" your muscles.

Like I say though, I know some people who swear to the above and more as benefits, and some who really don't feel any benefit from them...

They make you hot and sweaty and improve your appetite for the cold beer afterwards.

Re: Joined a leisure club.......

get in that bloody gym!!

I joined David Lloyd last week, huge step up from me old gym

I try and use the sauna and steam room 2-3 times a week, I find it relaxes me (and me muscles) after an intense workout...... I've only just got out the sauna actually about 20 mins ago I love the sauna, I intend to have one in my house as and when I can afford one

Steam rooms me second choice usually after the sauna, good for the ol' respiratory system, sounds gay but they add mint to the steam room at DL, its good stuff

But Colin............. GET IN THAT BLOODY GYM

Re: Joined a leisure club.......

Unless you choose an exercise you enjoy, the odds are it won't last. If the gym isn't your thing don't bother. Get out and do something you enjoy instead, in the fresh air

If on the other hand it is your thing, promise you won't invest in any lycra

Re: Joined a leisure club.......

The sauna is an excellent hangover cure (drink plenty of water, though!), you'll also get the best shave of your life, if you can sneak your razor in, too. If you've eaten a curry, or a lot of garlic, you may find yourself stinking a bit, though!
Always make me feel great.

Phil

I'll keep an eye out for your car, I am there everyday anyway

I agree with pixi, if the gym isn't your thing, then don't waste your money, there are plenty of other way's of keeping fit

And I agree with philc, best hangover cure, no doubt

I too agree with the hangover cure..

however other ways to "keep fit" require a girlfriend, fiancee or mistress.. and i think the gym may be the cheaper option

It's easy for me to say that it's a good way of keeping fit, but I guess its all down to who does all the work

*gets coat*

Well we shall see... altho any exercise i do in the next few freshers-weeks would probably be out-weighed by the amount of alcohol and greasy kebabs munched

There's a health club at The Village? Oh. never knew that.
Bummer.
at the Lancashire myself. Shame. Could have done with the shove to get into it properly rather than fannying about.
