Juicer recommendations

Anyone have one ? Would you recommend it ?

I see theres combined juicer/smoothy ones aswell, would a combined one be as good ? Again any model in particular you'd recommend ?

Anything to look out for ?

I'm looking for probably a 2 in 1, which is easy to clean and does a good job.

Re: Juicer recommendations

There are 2 types I think, I bought the cheaper one that works on centrifugal force , I regret it, spend the extra money and I would buy an american brand (even though I try not to most of the time)

Re: Juicer recommendations

the anthony worrell thompson one is very good, cant remember who makes it!!....It has a very powerful motor and a wide port so you can get big bits of fruit in.Bought it in roaches stores last year and use it every day,not had a single problem with it,if you get one with a weak motor it will soon expire!!

Something thats easy to remap

Seriously tho did look at these and decided it would be something else that would end up at the back of a cupboard, especially when you look at the amount (ie cost) of the fruit required to make a decent drink, jmo

I've got a Breville one with an 850w motor, awesome thing.

You can come round and give it a test drive if you like!

[My bold]

How do you select which fruit to juice every day, Kit? I only ask because a lot of fruit I turned into juice didn't taste very nice Do you add things (sugar I suppose) or do combos? I notice they put milk powder in some of the bought juices (e.g. coconut, guava ones etc).

It's a mystery to me, so I'm in the "back of the cupboard camp" at the moment.

Did you put in orange skin by any chance ? Was horrible when I did that.

The one I got is similiar to the one pictured here, theres only one base and you put the blender/juicer onto the same base depending on what you want. Btw how dry would the pulp be on the anthony worrell thompson ones ?

Re: Juicer recommendations

I can't believe you put orange skin in!

One of my friends tried to eat the pulp once on mine and said it was disgusting, it must have been very dry.

I usually go with oranges and apples, and sometimes I throw a carrot in there too. I've tried all sorts including strawberries, pineapples, grapes and kiwi. Oranges and apples always taste good I find, especially with Granny Smith apples for the extra tang.

I don't put orange skin in, but I do like it deep fried - weird but true.

In my own sweet way, I ate an object fruit first with all the slurping (and absorption of fibres) that it entailed and if it tasted nice, I could safely juice it, but then, if it tasted nice, why didn't I just eat the darn thing in the first place?

I buy lots of these ACE (being the vitamins included) drinks. My friend said - but it has carrots in it? Presumably disparaging that carrots are(were) a way of spreading out fruit for marmalade etc, but that's where the Vit A comes from, so fine by me

Regards
Mo

Re: Juicer recommendations

I think my mouth would be red raw if I ate 3 apples and 2 oranges every two days. That's how I justify it!

Plus carrots help you see in the dark, if I juice enough of them, I'll soon have night vision. But pure carrot juice is grim.

Re: Juicer recommendations

it depends what you like!!!......anything that you can eat the skin on put in if you want....anything you dont(like oranges!!) then dont!!......theres some good juice recipie books out there or i think the BBC website has a good section. Some things that you like might not taste good when mixed together!!!....some combo's are good for certain things ie extra vit c,d or e....some give you energy, some fight off colds. My ma swears by putting ginger root in hers!!!...which is good for fighting off colds.....but the amount she uses would fell a horse!!......all the usaul ones i use.....bannana,orange apple, mango, pineapple, strawberries, kiwi fruit,peach,melon...etc.....but drink straight away as you loose the minerals if you leave overnight!!!

happy juicing

Re: Juicer recommendations

I made the error of zapping on the TV passed midnight to get bombarded with all those silly money spending quizes and TV shopping. They did have one of those Jacques Lalanne juicers or whatever the name of it was.

Wasn't cheap (well, it was on TV after all ) but it did allow you to put entire fruit in without peeling / coring them first. So that minimises preparation time and mazimises juice output

edit: this is the one for a lot cheaper than the TV price clicky

Edit 2 : A whole Juicer website Juicer machines - compare and read reviews at Happy Juicer

Re: Juicer recommendations

I would recommend you don't buy one as it will get used twice the first week, then sit in the kithcen looking shiny for 3 weeks, then sit in the kitchen looking dusty for a year, then get relegated to the garage for a couple of years.

Although I must admit I have just resurrected mine for making Pina Coladas.

So you just can't complain

When you've had enough of using it for healthy drinks, rejuvinate it by using it to make intoxicating beverages
