| Briskodian | Just a thought...being invisible I have nothing to hide but hate the fact people's everyday lives are tracked. I get offers through the post based on what sort of things I consume. So they know what I shop for.I understand computers + spy ware can see what you type and again track you.I have instructions to report any dodgy clients to the police or I could get done myself.Think this applies to most jobs now (people in fertilizer factories reporting big quantity purchases). I am on camera walking down the street.I am on camera driving my car.Google earth can see in my back garden. So how come some people just disappear?? I do try and pay for things in cash.Only becaause I have been a card fraud victim.ID cards seem the final nail. Seems to me there is no escape How do you become invisible to authorities? |

Disappearing would be quite possible, but it would probably involve you changing lifestyle considerably - you wouldn't be able to have any loans/mortgages outstanding, as debt collectors are quite good at finding people. Furthermore, you'd need to find a landlord to rent off who would be willing to deal in cash without references, and who would not tell the council you were now in the property (so that you wouldn't be on the electoral register). You wouldn't be able to have a bank account, so you'd need to get a job working cash in hand, so you'd either be going for self-employment or working for a dodgy employer (who wouldn't be declaring your earnings for tax/NI)...am sure I don't need to tell you the legal implications of either. ![]() You'd still appear on CCTV footage and the like, only way round that would be to buy a hoodie so you couldn't be recognised. | Briskodian | Re: Just a thought...being invisible Good job we're all getting identity cards through our (extra cost) passports then, to put an end to all this nonsense. OTOH smiling for the cameras gets a bit worrying, when people look at you with eyebrows that haven't been botoxed... Mo |

| Re: Just a thought...being invisible I won't go on the identity register or be issued with an ID card ever - a lot of people seem to say this about everything but I literally will emigrate first. I'm going to renew my password while I can still do so without providing biometric samples, and should my options ever run out I'll go contribute to some other economy that doesn't deny its citizens the most basic liberties ![]() |

| Briskodian | Re: Just a thought...being invisible could not agree more. pay for everything in cash - this is more out of paranoiya than anything, but also after my bank decided to question my spending on bike parts - the total i had spent was little over £200, but this flashed up a computer error and low and behold i couldn't get any of my money to pay for petrol. phft. closed/requested details on all comapnies i could possibly think of that had my details and got them erased don't have a nectar card. google earth has a picture so pixilated of where i live theres not a hope in hell anyone would find it, you type in the post code and get blur. if we're lucky ID cards will sink with charles clarke if he resigns like he bloody well should do. if not. then renew the passport and emmigrate. even if it means a last ditch attempt eurostar and joining the foreign legion. as for the 'but if you've got nothing to hide crowd' - you won't be smiling when a clerical error on a database completely disembowels your life, or a policeman turns up at your door because you were 'heard to say' something about the welsh or likewise. if anything the western world is going backwards. anyone have any idea on whats happened to that legislation bill that would allo bills to be passed without having to go through the commons or lords if 'someone' deemed them to be urgent enough? |
