| Here goes the story, I was in a low paid but steady job, and one day i had to show a visitor around our server room. He worked for an IT company and offered me a better job, with a better career path and a much higher salary. This salary would be reviewed after 3 months and increase by another 1k. So today was my 3 month review. Sit down at the table. "Sorry we are going to have to let you go" . They are closing the part of the company that deals with IT so that they can focus on consultancy on telecoms and they don't have enough customers. The next words were, "leave your company mobile on your desk and leave","We'll pay you a weeks notice and send your P45 in the post". End of the day departments don't close overnight, he should never have employed me in the 1st place if he knew he was going down the panI did as I was told, but not without giving him a peice of my mind 1st. I told him that I was unhappy because I had a steady job and he headhunted me then 3 months later sacked me! He told me I was the one who chose to leave my previous company and leave for his company. I then told him that I left based on what he offered me, and how none of it was fulfilled. Given that they sacked me I can't quite see where this career path is. So I get home and read my contract of employment and I am entitled to 1 months notice, so they tried to screw me there as well. Can someone seriousley get away with screwing someone over like that I am booked in to see people from a vouluntary luton rights group and the citizens advice bureau. Any got any advice. End of the day he lost me my job ![]()

| Re: Lost my Job Feel for you. Have a word with the CAB lot. At least you've got it in writing, though not sure how that matches with the 3 month period etc. |

| Briskodian | Re: Lost my Job I guess you can spend a lot of time and money trying to get your 3 (4?) weeks pay for your notice period, although a letter referring to your contract should be enough to do that and only then, if it is not, should you want to follow a more expensive course - though that is your choice of course. Meanwhile, your efforts might well be better placed towards looking for your next job. There's no point in flogging a dead horse. Look at the reasons why you were headhunted - it seems "they" thought you were worth it, so hopefully another potential employer will also. Forwards not backwards my friend. ![]() Mo |

| Re: Lost my Job Damn that's bad. Still the CAB will advise you for free now that you are unemployed As you say, you should get paid in lieu of notice and your contract is obviously valid from day 1. You just have to check whatever terms they have re probationary periods. And as said above look at the positives; you were obviously able to secure a job just three months ago so hopefully it won't be dificult this time. You will probably end up on more money than whatever that cowboy outfit were paying anyway ![]() |

| Re: Lost my Job Sounds to me like he knew the company IT was moving. Their previous employee left knowing this having found another job so they had to get someone skilled in to fill the void for the short period of time.

| Re: Lost my Job Sorry to hear this .Been in a similar position myself several years ago - jumped ship from a reliable company that was closing but would've paid hansomly on redundancy to chase a dream job that was pooped within 6 weeks. worst bit was I missed out on about £9K redundancy (wasn't expecting anything so that's why I left, got announced two days after my notice went in) if I'd stayed and waited - the place I went to tried to screw me for notice but I was thankfully a union member so managed to pressure them into paying up. Still not a nice experience though I think you'll find CAB to be a waste of time and you have to bear in mind the hassles for future jobs if you chase it too hard (legally I mean) - it shouldn't effect any future jobs but we all know it would. Bar stewards! ![]()

| Re: Lost my Job We've recently off shored all our development and QA jobs to Malaysia. They're cr^p but cheap. Can I just offer you some hope? *EVERYONE* that lost their job in the past 12 months of cuts has gone on to do better things. The people that are left are the ones who, despite having jobs, are working their t1ts off just to keep up with the work load. I envy those that went and look forward to the kick up the 4rse I need to move me on to bigger and better things. Take comfort also that the IT job market is very buoyant so get out there and get back on your feet! All the best mate! JT |
