Major Bedroom refit - advice/suggestions

Right, so the bedrrom needs a major upgrade. hasn't been touched in a good 15 years.
The units and wardrobed pre-date moving there and white formica/vinyl clad chipboard is sooooo 1970's.......

1. Anyone know a decent bedroom fitter that does sliding wardrobes in the Manchester area? - Yellow pages has so far been a bit of a washout and before anyone suggests MFI, their sliding stuff looks and feels terrible.

2. Installing new flooring - the bamboo stuff from B & Q. Assume this will need adjustments to bottom of exisiting doors in order to fit due to thickness over currently laminate? What about skirting boards?

3. How about this for a proposed order of work:

- rip out old units
-strip walls and paintwork.
-relocate TV point
-repaint and paper
-flooring installation
-sliding wardrobe installation
-fit lcd to wall

Seems logical to me that the floor would need to be down before the wardrobes, but not sure.....

Most pressing subject is number 1 - a recommendation of a reputable supplier/fitter

If you need any electrical fittings (light switches, sockets, TV outlet) or lighting (downlighters, feature lighting) let me know

I can do "mates rates" on a wide selection of metal and plastic finished products.

Tsk! I was just about to log off. The best thing is for most peeps to design things re the end result desired. We can buy socket plates etc down the road. Does your new co have an online catalogue so we can see what's on offer as a starting point?

Regards
Mo

Before fitting the LCD to the wall, hide all the cables in the wall before papering and painting.

An excellent suggestion bar a small design quirk......
location of most possible working space is 45 degrees offset from location of bed.....so I was going to fit the lcd on a cantilvered wall bracket so when I'm done gaming on the ps3, I can continue to watch Heroes in bed.......

And as it will all be conviniently "hidden" behind a warrdrobe door, it won't be too painful. Plus, if I move or upgrade equipment (ps3, hdd recorder, pc all to be attached to it) ...... at leas thats my thinking........

However, the suggestion is still an excellent one and could be worthy of investigation with whomever I employ to do the job.......

@ mo - well I was really looking for suggestions - the one criteria that is non-negotiable is it has to be sliding, as opposed to opening or bi-folding, doors.
As examples:

idea 1
idea 2
@Goochie - could be very useful........just out of interest, can you get flush fitting or even box-type (as one of the double sockets is on a chimney thing, so is quite bulky/can't be recessed) brushed steel light switched and power sockets? This could prove to be very very useful.......

Flush fitting (flat plate) fittings are available, you'll find them in our "define" range of products - the trouble is with anyone's matal faced switches etc. is that you cant get a surface mounted kit (what you need if you cant put the back box in the wall). For a flush plate you will need a deeper than standard back box too - so retro fitting these is a big job for some people with older houses.

The traditional profile fittings (same shape as traditional plastic ones) are available in the same range of metal finishes and these are what most people use when re-fitting as you can simply replace the front plate you already have.

Brushed steel finishes are available as well as satin chrome, polished chrome, brass, satin brass, pearl nickel, black nickel etc. etc.

We have a great range of media outlet plates so you can run speaker cables in the walls to a plate then have a nice neat connection - see our New Media range for further details.

Re: Major Bedroom refit - advice/suggestions

what makes you think i haven't alreay got the mirroed ceiling? it's the only feature i'm keeping.

trapeze bars are too much - it's more fun taking turns clambering on top of the wardrobe and jumping off
