| My Hols Broke Me. Anyone else been there? Well, had been so looking forward to getting away, 4days in Miami's South Beach, then 5days in Key West. Had a Mustang booked for 8 of the 9 days, and our last 24hrs was to be spent in an SL63 AMG, it was costing $850 for the 24 hrs but it was a once in a lifetime chance and we thought worth the price. Miami went fine, but would not rush back there. Key West started great, 3rd day went on a jetski tour around the Island. 1.75 hrs of GREAT fun, hitting 50mph+ across the water, then everything changed. Heading out to sea at about 45mph, I hit what looked to be a big'ish (but not to big) wave, prob was that behind it was a hollow followed by an even bigger wave. Ski took off and ploughed me straight into the face of the 2nd wave. Things are a little fuzzy after that, did not think I was knocked out but while I thought my 2 friends were with me right away checking on me, later they told me it took them a few mins to get there. I did not fall into the sea, but ended up laying across the seat of the ski. !st thing I remember seeing below me was blood and thinking "i'm in trouble here". Next was hearing the other guys telling me to get back on the seat, I could hear them but could not move. I slowly came round, checked myself over, climbed back on2 the seat and slowly made my way back to shore. Anyway, ended up at hospital, 2 broken toes, fractured jaw, bust up inside of my lower lip pretty bad (the source of the blood) and kinda knocked the crap out of every other part of my body. Needless to say it was the end of the hols for me, even if I was up to driving the hospital refused to accept out travel insurance so we had to pay for the treatment (and claim it back when home) so the money to rent the AMG was gone anyway. So, anyone else got hol horror stories to tell us? Bryan |

| Re: My Hols Broke Me. Anyone else been there? Commiserations, and best wishes for for a quick recovery. I've not suffered anything as dramatic as that on holiday, but whenever I have a break from work I almost always get ill. I suspect this is because I actually have the time to, for a change, and it seems from speaking to a few people that this phenomenon isn't as unusual as you'd think. |

| Re: My Hols Broke Me. Anyone else been there? sounds like a rubbish end to the holiday. Hope you make a quick recovery. When I was younger I used to be quite accident prone and on a family holiday I managed to trip up when running down a hill and take all the skin off my knees (I've still got the scars). Later in the holiday I fall backwards off a swing and crack my head open as I couldn't straighten my legs to balance .Still not as bad as you |

| Go Gadget Octy! | Re: My Hols Broke Me. Anyone else been there? Plans to visit Florida last year for my 30th were FUBAR'd when the cow buying our place stalled beyond the travel date. Whole family went except SWMBO and I. We moved 7 days later, and lost £1500 for the flights etc which we couldnt claim off anyone. P*ssed just doesnt cover it. |

| Re: My Hols Broke Me. Anyone else been there? 1 good thing to come from it was the insurance paid for an upgrade to business class for the flight home, it was GREAT, turns in2 a full bed, slept (for 1st time ever on a flight) for 5hrs of the trip |

| Re: My Hols Broke Me. Anyone else been there? could not deal with the idea of the public transport, so have hired a Micra automatic, another motoring dream about to be lived out NOT but guess it is better than queueing for seats that are already taken by someone else ![]() |

| Briskodian | Re: My Hols Broke Me. Anyone else been there? Blimey! On the other hand, maybe it's a good thing that you will hopefully get a good job done rather than a botch job. It never rains but it pours, but hopefully you'll be as good as new in the long run. ![]() Have a safe (slow?) journey in the car. Are you sure you're not invalidating the car insurance incidentally? The rules seem to be a bit vague but I could see them trying to squirm out of that insurance as well if you needed to claim. As 160 miles is hardly a stone's throw, why not ask your MP what on earth would happen if there were an urgent emergency in your location? Perhaps you could compose a suitable letter whilst you're "loitering" in the hospital ![]() Best wishes Mo |

| Re: My Hols Broke Me. Anyone else been there? Both broken toes are on the left foot, the rental company know about it and know it is why I wanted an automatic, if they are aware and have no problem with it, I am thinking all should be ok |

| Re: My Hols Broke Me. Anyone else been there? Oooh, nasty! Glad you're safely back. I'd be having some serious words with the travel insurance company about why their policy isn't accepted. They should have been willing to handle it -that's what you pay 'em for! Get well soon! Phil |

| Briskodian | Re: My Hols Broke Me. Anyone else been there? My brother in a slightly drunken state was on his way back from the toilet in a club in tenerife happend to notice a gentleman talking to his other half, he walked over and made some comment about it being his girlfriend, being a bit cocky like. the guy walked off, 5 minutes later there was a tap on the shoulder, when my brother turned round he got a nose full of forehead so to say. Spent two days in hospital and the rest of the holiday looking like a bit of a plonker. How i bet he wishes he'd played the situation a bit cooler! sorry to hear about your accident, sounds like it could have been so much worse though! |
