Mycarcheck.com...any good??

I have just checked a car I was seriously interested in buying with this website..
It came back with no vin number and showing as a saloon, not a convertible.
When I rang the vendor to point this out he got very shirty and inisisted the car was genuine...
I liked the look of the car, but....
I tried to make him understand that he may have problems, and that I no longer wanted it and he more or less told me to sod off then.
he worked in a court allegedly....ho hum.

Like most companies, they get their information direct from the DVLA.

If you want some reassurance on the information provided, PM me the reg number and i'll check it out for you on Monday.

None of the public facing car check companies I am aware of will tell you the VIN number, they will tell you if there are any discrepancies with one you supply and the DVLA records.

Convertibles showing as saloons is quiet common, my Boxster was and their was never a Boxster saloon.

That's odd, because the previous car I checked gave me the vin no.
It's costing me a fortune in checking up on cars, but then again I would rather be sure, than be stuck with a wrong 'un.

Re: Mycarcheck.com...any good??

If this was the same checker then it does seem strange that the vin is not showing, there was a website that did HPI checks where you could bulk buy say 5 checks and get a good discount.

It could be an honest mistake though.

It seems like it may be, the ( very nice ) chap was most upset when I pointed out his car may be a 'ringer'.
We had already agreed a verbal 'sold as advertised' price and I only rang to inform him that he may have a dodgy car and he got upset with me.
he has every mot and service receipt, but no v5.......... ( it's on his desk he says, having just taxed it....)
It still seems a bit odd.

If something is fishy - don't buy. There will be other cars available.

Re: Mycarcheck.com...any good??

I posted details of a discount for 5 car checks in here a couple of months ago. 5 for around £20 IIRC, ideal if you are looking at several motors.

AFAIK Manny is right, they don't normally give a VIN unless you provide it and it matches.

Re: Mycarcheck.com...any good??

Discrepancies happen more than we might like to think, even with perfectly reputable firms - I'm sat here with a V5 and insurance cover for a 1.9 S Saloon....the finance company describe it as a 2.0 Sport Estate......supplied by a main dealer........

Angry Re: Mycarcheck.com...any good??

mycarcheck is a ripoff. You will not get any HPI information... just standard DVLA info. This site has been featured on RIPOFF-BRITAIN.net

I'd recommend you avoid since you will need another report anyway.

Re: Mycarcheck.com...any good??

Insurance firms always had my Mk1 octy as an estate. I assume DVLA was correct, as leased so no V5.
