The mystery of the missing sky channels...

We pay to have the 6 mix with sky - ie not the movies, sport and porn.

So why is it that I am losing Sky channels randomly, all the screen shows is a message saying 'No satellite signal being received'

For instance: ( = works = doesn't work)

101 - 104 BBC through to Channel 4
105 Channel 5 however
106 Sky 1
107, 108 and But Sky 2, 3 and UKTV thumbdwn:
110 UKTV+1
111 UKTV gold
112 all the way to 131
BUT 132 UKTV Drama doesn't work oops

I could go all the way through the channels, but you get the idea. A good 25% that should work don't!

I am going crazy because half way through a show the signal will drop out for no reason. I have tried calling customer services a while back and was told that they didn't know

Going to try again tonight, but there is a 17 minute Q to be spoken to and I can't be aresed!!

On the hold at the mo...

I have 'called at a busy time' and I have 'been placed in a Q'. Being played the Star Wars bad guy marching tune with a little woman telling me that I have been on hold longer than they would like. Rarrr!!!

Ok... so I hold and hold and hold.

Finally a woman answers and says I have been put through to installations and told me to call again on the customer services line!!! Been given 08705404040 as the number to call and what ever sites I look at I can't find the non 0870 version.

LMB issue? Mis-alignment of dish? Is your box/dish 'in warranty' with Sky?

Re: The mystery of the missing sky channels...

Have you tried resetting your box (i.e turning it off at the wall) the other thing have you checked there is anything blocking your satalite dish.
My dad was having similar problems, sky came out to fix the problem and a tree which he planted several years ago had grown a branch near the dish and was interrupting the signal. A simple saw fixed the problem

Re: The mystery of the missing sky channels...

To be honest, we had so many problems with Sky, we got rid of them.

They still like to phone up to ask us to go back, mainly when Iam trying to sleep off nights I've developed some new swear words for such an occasion.

Odly enough, not had a call for some weeks now....................................

Re: The mystery of the missing sky channels...

The box is over a year old, the dish is a non standard installation because it is shared between 3 other flats in the block. There is a big tree outside, so might be the problem.

I don't know what channels I have, let alone which ones I'm missing, I'm so clueless at most things.

Tbh, it might have been gone a while. I only notised the other day.

If I REALLY wanted to watch C5 there is always the freeview that came with the telly.

I am FINALLY settling down to watch Blue Planet that I wanted to watch on an hour ago but UKTV history doesn't work (but UKTV history plus an hour does work )

Re: The mystery of the missing sky channels...

Call customer services again and keep complaining, threaten to cancel if they want to charge you a call out fee to check your system.
I did this with mine and they gave me a good will gesture of a free call out and the engineer changed the LNB I think it was called, but I said to the engineer that I was having software issues and I had already had a box replaced and I thought it was still the box that was at the source of all the faults and he did give me a new box in the end.

Sky are desperate for customers and if you have figures from Virgin Media when you call to threaten termination they should be more helpful.

Re: The mystery of the missing sky channels...

As a by the bye - our Virgin Media was playing up at tea-time
Showing 'no channels' and being a right pig in general.
Best was when I pressed remote to bring up 'Your Channels' and a message popped up saying 'Your batteries on your hand set may be failing......'
Go figure

Re: The mystery of the missing sky channels...

Em El, Youll most likely find that the LNB ( block on the end of the dish, is most likely at fault, (could poss be your box, but more than likely dish related) now if its a 'communal' dish, this *falls* outside the powers of a 'normal' sky engineer.. ie you would need to find out (normally via your housing management team if its apartments etc) who actually covers your dish. even tho' the other people sharing the dish may actually be receiving all of the channels, your particular part of the block may be failing.. reason that a few channels disappear rather than just one , is due to Digital Compression and the fact that anything up to 32 channels share the same amount of bandwidth

HTH

Re: The mystery of the missing sky channels...

You can pick up LNB's for next to nowt on eBay but you'd probably want a quad one if it's serving 4 houses. If the dish is accessible, it can be changed in about 2 mins
