Question New matress for bed, but which one?

SWMBO and I are looking for a new matress. Our existing one is worn out, and you can feel the springs poking through

So, what do people have and recommend? I'd prefer a relatively firm orthopedic kind of matress. Not too bothered about those "memory" type ones as people say you tend to fall back in your hole if you're a t0sser and turner. (dreaded swear filter )

I'd also prefer a relatively cool matress, but SWMBO is always cold, so don't know if you can get a matress which is cool on one side and warmer on the other (hole in the market maybe?! ).

I've had a quick read through the other thread here on Brisk, but as it's rather old, thought some new members may like to share their thoughts

We bought a couple of these after someone recommended them on a usenet newsgroup. Have had no problems in the past year and a half falling asleep

Dreams Poket 1000 or Pocket 1400.

Really comfortable, and a good price but make sure dreams give you a delivery date for it before you hand over the money.

A couple meaning two butted against each other to make one double bed? If so, what about the join in the middle?

only 2*single != 1* double

Double = 4'6" wide and single = 2'6 (small single) or 3' wide

Re: New matress for bed, but which one?

I bought a pocket sprung matress with a topping of contour (memory) foam. It moulds to your body shape. Its the most comfortable mattress I have had. But why are you listen to me or anyone else, its a personal thing, we're all different....

Put some comfy clothes on (not your jim jams though) and spend a couple of hours in the bed shop. Lay on the various types until you find a few you like. Then spend a bit longer on those few making sure....

Hope this helps.

Jeff

PS - I went to a huge bedding store to choose mine (more choice), then shopped around for the best deal.

No problem having a join in the middle... but I'm a bit older and longer married than you are

Talk to a carpenter Im sure a good carpenter could knock you up a bed which makes minimal noise.

I build my own beds, and they can be nice and quiet good bracing is what you need and a good tight finish.

Not the best of photos, but that cost about £40 in materials It did get modified after that picture was taken, I added some more bracing to stop end to end movement. similiar to what was already in place to stop side to side movement. Nice and quiet now .

Excellent advice which I followed recently when buying a new double bed for a guest room.

Re: New matress for bed, but which one?

As I travel a lot for my work, I started to check out the mattresses of the beds that I got a really good nights sleep in and came up with Sealy. Of all the hundreds of different beds I slept in (please don’t say the obvious) I always got a good night sleep on a Sealy. I have a nice firm Sealy Posturepedic mattress and not only is it as good as new after 6 years but gives me the best nights sleep of any mattress I’ve ever owned.

Re: New matress for bed, but which one?

Try a Memory Mattress, we've just bought one when moving house. People always come in to see the rooms, and sit on the bed then they fall in love with the mattress. It moulds to your body, but isn't too soft at the same time!

Re: New matress for bed, but which one?

Please chaps, I posted in the hotel for a good reason (whoops, probably sounds wrong!)

I'm planning on having a couple of hours going round and trying various matresses to get an idea. But there are hundreds out there, so wondered if anyone had one they recommend based on what I'm after: fairly firm, preferably not too hot.

Thanks

Sealy Posturepedic, best mattress IMHO gives a great nights sleep and good support.

Re: New matress for bed, but which one?

I've just bought a Tempur mattress, had it for only a week, they are reallly expensive but it feels comfy but I STILL have a bad back Its foam that moulds to your shape and is supposed to help with back problems

Its on a 60 night trial so if my back does not improve, its going back and I'll just get a good quality orthopaedic one.

Re: New matress for bed, but which one?

I'm afraid i can't recommend a particular one but, if you end up buying one that you think is too hard you can buy a mattress pad in different thicknesses to lay on top and these are washable too

Re: New matress for bed, but which one?

I always have had Sealy Posturpedic since I got my first house, but now have Tempur. I have never had such fulfilling and rewarding sleep as I do now. I awake totally free of all body aches, and also move around much much less (applies to the wife too). I could never return to a sprung/normal mattress again.
